MONSTER ENERGY OUTBREAK TOUR PRESENTS XXL FRESHMEN LIVE, TO KICK OFF IN AUSTIN AT SXSW ON MARCH 13 FOR SIX SHOWS NATIONWIDE.

LOS ANGELES, February 28, 2012 — The Monster Energy Outbreak Tour returns this spring, and presents the XXL Freshmen Live concert series. For the past five years, XXL magazine has continually predicted rising stars in hip-hop with great success, and will now flaunt their annual forecast in a live setting. The six-city tour kicks off in Austin on March 13 during SXSW 2012 at the Transmission Warehouse. The tour, which is being produced by Idol Roc Entertainment in conjunction with AEG Live, will feature members from this year’s Freshman Class 2012, and headliners from Freshman Classes of the past, to vary in each city. Big Sean will headline Los Angeles, Kendrick Lamar in San Francisco, and both Wale and B.o.B in two separate Atlanta shows, while NYC will feature the entire 2012 Freshman Class, which will be announced shortly.

XXL’s forthcoming April issue, which features the Freshman Class 2012, hits newsstands on March 20. The Class includes: Machine Gun Kelly, French Montana, Future, Roscoe Dash, Hopsin, Kid Ink, Danny Brown, Mackelmore, Don Trip and Iggy Azalea. This year nine of the Freshmen were picked by the XXL staff, while the 10th choice was voted on by hip-hop fans at XXLMag.com. Past XXL Freshman Class alumni include Wiz Khalifa, Wale, Yelawolf, J. Cole, Big Sean, Kid Cudi, J.Cole, Lupe Fiasco and Mac Miller.

Monster Energy has had a long-standing relationship with music, and expanding into the touring realm was the next step, with the help of music management and tour production firm Idol Roc Entertainment. The first two Monster Energy Outbreak Tours in winter and fall of 2011 were rooted in hard rock music and reached 30-plus markets. “Monster has a history of getting involved with young bands early on and showing their support,” says Steve Glazer, president of Idol Roc Entertainment. “They like to be involved in music. Music is a major part of their culture and this is a natural extension.”

XXL, now in its 15th year of publication, is the number-one-selling hip-hop magazine in the world. XXLMag.com, meanwhile, has established itself as one of the top hip-hop sites, updating 24 hours a day, seven days a week with the best original content devoted to the rap world.
