A$AP Rocky performed before a sold-out audience at Irving Plaza in NYC Wednesday (February 1) night, and the Harlem rapper brought out a few special guests for his first hometown headlining show including Waka Flocka, Bun B and Schoolboy Q. But the highlight of the night was when he brought his mom out on stage to party with him.

“My mom was on stage wildin’ and shit,” Rocky said about his mom joining him for his performance, to which she replied, “Word! I had a good time!”

Rock's mom was equally as excited about having met rap legend Rakim for the very first time (via phone) on Hot 97’s Angie Martinez Show earlier that day, the person whom she named her son after. "It made me feel great! It made my year!" she exclaimed. "It made my decade!"

Rocky, whose birth name is Rakim Mayers, was named after the God emcee because his mother is a devout fan of the rap pioneer.

“He got his name from Rakim the God, you know being that my name begins with an R and I wanted to name my boys with R’s, and what better name to give him than Rakim the God,” his mother explained about how she came up with the name, adding that the first time she saw Rakim, “It was amazing! I was sitting on 125th Street on a milk crate and he was waiting for the light, so I hurried up and got Rocky out of his stroller put his butt in Rakim’s face and he was so nice about it.”

Angie Martinez surprised Rocky by inviting Rakim up to the station for an impromptu visit on Wednesday.  The microphone fiend stopped by Hot 97 to meet the young Harlemite and also chatted with his mother via the airwaves. —Chanel Clark
