Drake Says Kendrick Lamar Was Missing From Leaked Take Care Tracklist

With his Take Care album just 14 days away and a track list leak yesterday (October 31), Drake took to the airwaves of Los Angeles’ Power 106 last night not only to clarify some details surrounding his upcoming album and tour, but also to debut a few musical nuggets.

Regarding the leaked tracklist, the Young Money rapper stated it was “a little off:” Kendrick Lamar will also be featured on the sophomore set. As previously reported, the album will also have guest appearances by Lil Wayne, Andre 3000, Nicki Minaj, Rihanna, The Weeknd and Rick Ross.

And, after cancelling a few Club Paradise Tour dates originally set for this month, the OVO general explained he wanted to stay true to most of his fanbase: young students. Thus, instead of banking off stadium shows, he wants to make his tour more intimate, including doing many more college campuses along the way.  The tour will take over most of January and February.  Surf Club producer/rapper Chase N. Cashe, who was present with the Toronto native at the station, will open for the tour along with A$AP Rocky and Lamar.

A few world premieres and surprises were in store during the radio chat as well.  Chase N. Cashe’s new single, “I Wish I Was in Vegas,” made its debut. And, right before he released his latest track, the Lil Wayne-assisted “The Motto,” off Take Care, Drizzy premiered T.I.’s “Headlines” freestyle, welcoming the Atlanta, Georgia, rapper home and dubbing him one of his closest friends.

As if that weren’t enough, Drake returned to Power 106 early this morning to announce that he would join the lineup for the Cali Christmas 2011 concert on December 16 at the Gibson Amphitheater, joining the likes of Big Sean, J. Cole, Audio Push, YG and Love Rance. Pre-sale tickets go on sale this Thursday (Nov. 4). —Rachelle Jean-Louis

i think that you should have to prove you’ve heard anything from drake besides his singles to be able to make a comment like this. name your favorite rapper, drake is eating his/her food and shitting it out on his/her head piece right now. and i’m not even talkin’ flows. that’s just the fact that dude works non stop and is always forcing emcees to try to keep things unique. but they can’t keep up. and if we are talkin’ flows, they still can’t fuck with him! whether or not you ride with his music, homeboy is closing the walls in on this game. count it down.

i don’t think drake is overrated by any means, he is the king of mainstream rap today because he consistently makes bangers and is tight with some of the best producers and rappers in the game right now! i love him but i would never put him next to nas, biggie, tupac, tribe or any of those legends. he hasn’t earned that status yet. but i’m excited with what’s to come and if he keeps exploring new styles and flows then he could be GOIN’ IN FOR LIFE!

Drake is alright, but he can’t touch any of the legends of the game. Today’s rap is based solely on the hook, lyrical content is just about as watered down as it comes. You can’t visualize anything these guys say today. Guys like Rakim took you on a lyrical journey…..that’s when shit was real.

Cismoove..its funny how you say drakes songs are focused on a hook which tells me you dont actually listen to drake. not even half of his songs get radio play and yeah the ones that go mainstream are the ones with a good hook..but listen to songs like fireworks, karaoke, cece’s interlude, shut it down, etc. and come and tell me his lyrical content is “watered down”. drake makes the radio cause people like his shit, cause the kids got talent. but he also has die hard fans cause his musics got soul. yeah he knew lil wayne, but he put in WORK and he deserves all of this and more. you cant compare him to biggie tupac and nas cause those guys already had their run..drakes just startin his. take care.
