Lupe Fiasco said goodbye to his Twitter account yesterday (July 13) to the shock of his fans.

“I'm quitting twitter,” he wrote. “[It] was fun while it lasted...” “Thanks for the support on #lasers and i will see you all on the road soon...don't forget...Love Always Shines Everytime Remember 2 Smile....(sic).”

The Lasers general wasted no time in promoting his singer/songwriter Nikki Jean, who released her debut album Pennies in a Jar this week. “[You] know what," he asked. "[I'm] gonna let @NIKKIJEAN takeover my twitter -- go get that album (sic).” Nikki was featured on the Chi-town spitta’s The Cool single “Hip-Hop Saved My Life.” Lupe changed his Twitter picture to her album cover, and she has since taken over his account.

With over 722,000 followers, the Chicago rapper often used his Twitter account to update his admirers on his former battle with label home Atlatlic Records , clarify statements to the media, or just to say what was on his mind.

Just recently, he blasted Bill O’Reilly for calling him a “pinhead” on The O’Reilly Factor, consequently leading to him appearing on the Fox pundit’s TV show. And he also used his Twitter to praise Lil B’s album, I'm Gay (I'm Happy), calling it one of the best rap albums he’s heard in a while. In addition he even used the social networking site to start a book club with his fans.

Will Fiasco be off Twitter permanently? Not according to Miss Jean. “Big thank you to @LupeFiasco for supporting my record,” she tweeted via his account. “He won't be gone for too long.. Promise ;-) (sic).”—Rachelle Jean-Louis
