Without much warning, Lil B dropped his new, controversially-titled album, I’m Gay (I’m Happy), on Wednesday (June 29th). But just a day later (June 30), the Bay-area rapper gave the LP away for free, posting a meadifire link for download on his Twitter page.
“CUZ I LOVE YOU IF YOU DONT HAVE 10 DOLLERS TO BUY MY NEW PROJECT HERE IT GOES FOR FREE- Lil B,” he wrote, with the url attached. “I DID THAT BECUASE I TRULY LOVE YALL AND I WANT MY SUPPORTERS TO NO I LIVE AND DO THIS FOR YALL AND SUM PEOPLE DNT HAVE $ RIGHT NOW – Lil B. (sic)”
Lil B’s fans and fellow artists have already expressed their like for the set via the internet. “Lil B’s ‘I’m Gay‘ is prolly one of the top 5 musical offerings of 2011,” wrote one supporter, while rapper Lupe Fiasco took to his own lupefiasco.com site to praise the project, as well as Twitter. “I actually think callin his album ‘I’m Gay’ is GENIUS & Revolutionary,the cover is Genius,” he said, referring to Lil B’s Marvin Gaye influenced cover art. “[Its] some brave shit…AND he spittin REAL shit. I’ll stamp it now ‘I’m Gay’ is one of the best rap albums I heard in a looooong time. Some MFDoom x Ghostface x Kanye flava to it…(sic)”
