Gangsta rap pioneer Kool G Rap turned 43 today. But don’t expect the Kool Genius of Rap to throw a huge blowout and buy up the bar. XXL recently caught up with the Queens, NY native to find out his plans

“I was never a person to do the party thing, or nothing like that, for birthdays,” Rap told XXLMag.com. “So I’m just grateful. I’ll be grateful to see another year.”

Arguably one of hip-hop’s greatest storytellers, the lyrical heavyweight came in the game during the late 1980’s as part of the legendary Juice Crew. Along with partner DJ Polo, he left an indelible mark on the rap genre, releasing several classic LPs during rap’s golden era, including Road to the Riches, Wanted: Dead or Alive and Live and Let Die. In 1995, Giancana began his solo career with the celebrated LP, 4,5,6.

Last May, the rap vet dropped his latest solo disc, Rich Royalty and Respect, on Fat Beats Records.

Happy Birthday to Kool G Rap ! —XXL Staff
