Lil Wayne Tapped For MTV Unplugged
MTV has announced that the next artist to get its storied Unplugged treatment will be Young Money leader Lil Wayne. Airing June 12 on MTV, MTV2 and MTV.com, Weezy plans to put a unique spin on his hits and fan favorites in the stripped-down setting.
"Lil Wayne is an amazing choice for Unplugged as he is at hip-hop's forefront -- leading a new generation of artists whose appeal spans across music genres and playlists," said Amy Doyle, an EVP at MTV. "Lil Wayne's skills, influence and catalog are a powerful addition to the legacy of artists who have rocked the Unplugged stage."
In recent years, Unplugged has also featured B.o.B. and Trey Songz, yet Wayne will be the first hip-hop superstar to grace the show's stage since Jay-Z and Lauryn Hill performed in 2001 and 2002 respectively. Both of those artists eventually released their sets as standalone albums.
