On Wednesday, April 20 the Chrysler Group and Beats By Dr. Dre announced a new partnership that would bring the superproducer’s studio quality sound technology into the all-new Chrysler 300S vehicle. The exclusive partnership was announced during Chrysler’s press conference at the 2011 New York Auto Show.
Instead of the more usual approach of creating an automative sound, Dre and Interscope chairman Jimmy Iovine worked side-by-side with an engineering team at Chrysler to create the 10-speaker audio system. “Our partnership with the Chrysler Group will set the bar for the way music should be heard in cars”, said Iovine.
This alliance comes after the vehicle giant recently teamed up with Eminem’s Marshall Mathers Foundation, a few months back for the “Imported from Detroit T-Shirts” which geared towards local communities.
“Beats By Dr. Dre has always been about restoring the emotional music connection between an artist and the listener, and Chrysler vehicles beginning with the Chrysler 300S will let drivers hear music the way the artists intended,” said Oliver Francois, president and CEO, Chrysler Brand
The 2012 Chrysler 300S powered with the Beats By Dr. Dre audio system will arrive nationwide during the fall.
In related news, Dre recently won his lawsuit against Death Row and the digital rights to his groundbreaking 1992 album, The Chronic. The federal judge ruled on Tuesday that Death Row Records does not have the rights to sell the beatsmith’s magmum opus digitally. The ruling doesn’t halt the digital sales of Dre’s music but, he does receive 100 percent of the online sales.
As of press time there has been no word from Death Row’s attorney and camp on the verdict. – Ralph Bristout
