Nas Says Gadhafi is “Misunderstood”

Nas is never one to shy away from political issues. During an interview with misformusic.com on the heels of his upcoming UK tour with Damian Marlery, Nas was asked to share his opinion on the uprising in Libya.

As far as God’s Son is concerned, Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi is getting a bad rap.  “I never saw Gadhafi as an enemy, like a deadly enemy that wanted to harm people for no reason,” he said. “I kind of see him as someone who is misunderstood.” [Listen above]

Over the last month rebel units have waged a war against the despot, following the revolutions in Egypt and Tunisia. Although it’s hard to pinpoint an exact figure, The New York Times reports that death toll estimates are in the thousands and will only continue to rise, with no ending to the conflict in sight.

“I think a revolution in Libya is important and I just hate to see that the people are against [Gadhafi] or he has to be against [them],” Nas continued. “I hate to see any violence between him and his people, I just don’t like that.”

Asked if he thinks the US should get involved, the Queens-bred rapper replied: “Intelligently yes, I think they could intervene so that there could be peace y’know and some understanding and sure if they can help.”

In related news, 50 Cent, who performed for Gadhafi at a film festival six years ago, vowed to donate money to the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in light of the events going on in Libya.—Elan Mancini

I agree Ben_the_Curve!, very poor choice of words. This is irresponsible journalism. Very unprofessional article by Elan Mancini. This man has murdered a countless number of innocent people. You need to be more careful about what you say.

Journalism at XXL is something else. It is so disappointing. I think you guys should just have music on the site and stop writing articles.

  • Speak Easy

The article seems like a soft dart directed at Nas, but its true what he says. For instance if you have followed Gadhafi’s reign, than you would see how Gadhafi is misunderstood. He’s painted now as a calculating monster, but he’s just a corrupt idiot whose actions have now led to many deaths. Elan Mancini wrote this in a way as to jab Nas and hug 50 though…politics of hip hop journalism

  • well what about

It was only 1-2 years ago the Scotish government, lobied by Parliment in London, to release that Libyan prisoner. In order to gain more exclusive oil deals with BP. Then 1 year later people like Obama and the media etc wants him out??

What Nas said is true, but Gadhafi was a monster then, and he is now. But yes, he is very misdunerstod. I agree with the gaws Nasir. XXL try a little harder next time.
