Wiz Khalifa Enlists Pharrell & Jim Jonsin for Atlantic Debut

Wiz Khalifa is quite confident with his untitled Atlantic debut LP.

While his hit lead song, “Black and Yellow” has already sold over 1 million copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan, and peaked at No. 6 on Billboard’s Hot 100 singles chart, the 2010 XXL Freshman expects his new material to fare better.

“Everything that we drop after ‘Black and Yellow’ is going to do as well or better,” Khalifa told billboard.com. “‘Black & Yellow’ was just supposed to be a set-up record. We haven’t even gotten into the good stuff. So with ‘Black and Yellow’ taking off and people getting behind it and supporting it that much, that’s just great, great for what’s going to happen after that. I mean, I just feel that good about it.”

Wiz said he has already gone into the studio with The Neptunes’s Pharrell Williams and Jim Jonsin. Saying that the disc is basically finished, he plans on dropping the album sometime in March on Rostrum Records/Atlantic. —Elan Mancini

Hope they don’t make Black and Yellow this year’s Beamer Benz or Bentley for Wiz’s sake ( Attn Record labels: Please try to Drop an album relatively soon after the single blows if at all possible, to capitalize on the momentum)

Dude should be straight though if they are saying March. One more banger as good as Black and Yellow and Young Khalfia should be good to go. Taylor Gang niggaz gonna support dude in full force

i mean beamer, benz, or bentley was hot since late spring ’10 banks dropped his album in november n he also had two bangers “any girl” and “start it up” listening to banks album it was extremely good from top to bottom

But the difference wit banks n khalifa is banks album was an independent album so therefore is a lack of funds for promotion and shit but wiz is backed up by a big label so he should use dat as an advantage

Co-sign. Banks record was dope. Underated and kinda got outshined by Ye and Minaj dropping the same time. I just think 11 months time to put out the album was crazy when BBB went gold as a single. Long time to wait to put an album out, and those other 2 singles didn’t do nearly as well as bbb.

But u are right Wiz prob wont have the same issues. I bet he gets a big marketing push too. He becomes a bit more mainstream each day .

Wiz’s movement took off like a rocket…now I suppose Atlantic is the after burners. One can only think it’s down hill from here…

the longer you wait the more the buzz die if you don’t have a second single that is as strong as the first by mrach lil wayne might be ready to drop and every might not care about a wiz album this game is about timing

Wiz is holding down for the PGH. However, it seems everyone is confused. Banks going independent is more money. Wiz is on a major label backed by 2 of the greatest execs (Lyor and Kevin Lilies). Rostrum’s CEO used to work for Atlantic. DO YOUR RESEARCH. Atlantic is going put in those dollars to make sure it doesn’t flop. However, there are many MCs is the city that are nice and haven’t been recognized. NO HATE. He’s opening the door so support him. If he flops there will be a stigma for the other MCs that come afterwards. XXL is DEFINITELY getting cash put in their hands because they’re giving too much recognition. ITS ALL ABOUT MARKETING. BLACK AND YELLOW IS OKAY, BUT ITS NOT THAT HOT. ITS THE FACT ATLANTIC IS PUTTING THOSE DOLLARS IN. What happened to REAL HIP HOP? Hip Hop is dead and wil never be the same. Money talks, BS walks. R.I.P. TO THE GREATS 2PAC AND BIGGIE 4 MAKING US FEEL THE PAIN AND PASSION IN THE MUSIC. XXL KEEPS ACTIN LIKE WIZ WASN’T SIGNED TO WARNERS BROS. HE JUST STAYED ON HIS GRIND. MUCH RESPECT, BUT DON’T LET THE MONEY MAKE YOU JUDGE MUSIC. HEAR IT 4 WHAT IT IS. SONGS TO RIDE AND BLOW 2 NOTHING SOILD OR CLASSIC. NO CONCEPTS.

black & bellow is a dope song, but it would be hard to put it into even a top 10 list of songs by wiz. kush & oj, how fly, prince of the city 2, and flight school, those were some dope mixtapes. wiz just needs to keep makin’ songs that got him all the fans in the first place, and he’ll be fine. you need to remember how dedicated taylor gang is to supportin wiz, cause whether he has another single that gets as much attention as black & yellow, wiz will get decent record sales just cause of taylor gang and everyone who reps it.
