Soulja Boy Upset Over 2008 Grammy Loss to Kanye

Soulja Boy is taking a page out of the Kanye West playbook.

In an interview with the Associated Press, the ATLien complained about losing the 2008 Grammy Award for Best Rap Song to Yeezy. As fans remember SB’s hit “Crank That (Soulja Boy)” was nominated in the category, but Mr. West took home the honors for his T-Pain featured single, “Good Life.”

“[I] should have got the Grammy,” he told the AP.

Thinking optimistically, Soulja recorded the song, “Grammy” on his latest release, The Deandre Way, in a plea to win something the next time he’s eligible. (Since his disc came out on November 30, 2010, he missed the September 30 cut off date for this year’s ceremony).

SB has not been nominated for the prestigious award since his debut in 2008. —Elan Mancini

LOL ” NOW WHAAAAAAAAAAMMMMMMMMMEEEE YOOOOOOOOOOUUUUUUUUUU ” i don’t even like kanye but c’mon soulja YOU know you didn’t deserve even a nomination for that garbage

1st! Would Soulja Boy tell ‘em PLEASE just shut the fuck up over a three year-old Grammy that he didn’t win and was never destined to win; This is 2011 and your song “GRAMMY” is damn sure ain’t gonna make a case for you winning such a prestigious award because no serious hip-hop head out there takes you that damn seriously anyway all just for the fact that you do the same shit! And now he wants to whine, moan and groan like a BITCH and hold a goddamn envious grudge in the present to something that happen in the past??? NIGGA PLEASE!! Your atrocious ass already killin’ the name of Hip-Hop!!! He’ll never be mentioned as one of the greatest in Hip-Hop and if that was the case, it would be a disgrace!

Ok…. from the most basic perspective, I understand what Soulja is trying to say. Everyone wants to win. Everyone.

Ok…. from the hip-hop perspective…. Are you fuckin’ kidding me?! Soulja has sucked from day one. And realistically, the album he was nominated probably had the best chance to notch a Grammy for dude. Now he won’t ever be considered again. Especially with that last album he put out. Soulja could never do what Kanye has done.

You know what? I’m about to start some controversy here….

I will say that Soulja’s music is worse than MC Hammer’s was……

You know what? Should I say this….. Fuck it, forget the racist shit behind the marketing of Vanilla Ice but ARTISTICALLY….Soulja’s music is artistically worse than Vanilla Ice’s shit. Yep. I said it! Fight Club people!

I like Kanye he has a nice flow. The good life I saw play more on tv then crank that. I still see this video play on MTV jams lol I’m glad he did win that what hard work is not riding around in your lambo all day on south beach.

@ Sha what it do my dude? lol this shit is funny…

There was a blog not too long ago saying how Vanilla Ice’s lyrics were tighter than Soulja Boy’s, Waka’s and Shawty Lo’s. They even put the lyrics next to them to compare them. Vanilla actually had sentences and shit lol The others looked really extra weak when you actually saw the words on paper.

I actually don’t mind Soulja Boy and I def appreciate dudes hustle. I try not to hate on too many rappers ( although Waka pushes my patience levels) and usually chalk it up to maybe a certain artist just isn’t my taste. I was thinkin bout what you wrote and found it difficult to compare Hammer and Vanilla to Soulja, mainly because the former two pretty much jacked entire musical compositions for their hits ( V-Ice , Queen with Under pressure, Hammer with U can touch this, Rick James Superfreak and Pray, Princes When Doves Cry). I mean there is sampling tastefully, and then there is jackin entire trcks which is mostly what Hammer and Vanilla did….Soulja Boy at least puts together his own shit. … Now Hammer was a great dancer and put together a ridiculous stageshow so I gotta give it up to him….but I gotta say a song like 2 Legit 2 Quit for example is probably = to Crank That for the time period as far as actual quality goes…. Both did what they were supposed to : Make kids dance and enjoy themselves.

      What’s up?

Yeah… I don’t knock Soulja Boy’s hustle. As I said before, everyone wants to win. But he just needs to elevate his skills. Yeah, what he did was good for the yunguns…. We all had that. What did cats think that whole Kid-N-Play thing was about…. Some music is made for the kids (thanks ODB)….

But Soulja needs to keep his anger in his bedroom mirror. Especially after that last album dropped.

I try not to hate either. I wish Soulja well…. At least he stacked some paper.

    @ Sha

I’m not gonna front I used to love Kid N Play when I was like 12 lol… the movies, joints everything…

I defintely think that Soulja should fall back on this because Good Life was def a better track…. but Crank That will be remembered for different reasons ( Superman dance, those white shades, and being a track that catapulted a rapper to stardom via the internet) . Same how U can’t touch this will be remembered as the song that showcased those ridiculous pants and sequined jackets, Hammer dancing around, and will go down as probably one of the most blatant track rip-offs in rap history. Obviously a dude like Ye who has much more substance will be remembered years from now as having a dope ass catalog, in which Good Life will be a footnote in.

Not for nothin, Soulja Boy has improved lyrically since that song. Check out the following and see what you think:

    Play ball ( featuring Drake)
Miami (Freestyle over Styles P- Good Times).

I mean he’s no lyrical genius, but hes improved.

0870 numbers generate profit for the companies using them. Theyre not included in free minute packages (BT is perhaps the only telecoms provider who do include them) and cost more than a standard national telephone call. In other words, theyre premium rate.
