Protesters plan to rally outside of Hot 97 today over a controversial comment made by DJ Cipha Sounds last Friday (December 17) during his morning show with Peter Rosenber and K-Fox.

During the broadcast, Ciph joked, “The reason I’m HIV negative is because I don’t mess with Haitian girls.”

He quickly apologized on-air, after the station received an abundance of phone calls and comments online slamming the remarks. “I made a stupid, tasteless joke,” he said. “I want to say sincerely that I apologize. I said something stupid that I’m embarrassed about.”

Members of the Haitian groups like BelTiFi, the Haitian American Caucus, and the Haitian Roundtable are all expected to show up outside of the storied radio station today, and demand that Cipha gets fired.

Hot 97 has yet to comment on the incident.

This isn’t the first time a Hot 97 morning show host is in the hotseat for racially insensitive statements. In 2005, Miss Jones and DJ Envy were suspended following an uproar they caused with their Tsuanami song, poking fun at those killed by the natural disaster. Two producers on the show were also eventually fired. —Elan Mancini
