After only a minute into his celebratory performance at Houston’s House of Blues last night (November 30) to mark the release of his third studio album, Tha Thug Show, Slim Thug was suddenly flush with the reality of Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz was right, “there’s no place like home.”

Basking in the hometown adulation like a long-limbed and lyrical Rocky Balboa, the rapper born Stayve Thomas offered up his bravado-laced, signature adlib, “Haaaaaa,” and, backed by two DJs, two guitarists and one funky drummer, launched into “I’m Back” from his sophomore album, Boss of All Bosses.

The towering MC then dipped his musical slab down memory lane—back to the time when H-town music ruled hip-hop—and offered up his verse on the smash hit, “Still Tippin’.”

Slim kept it moving with his verse from “3 Kings” and the Neptunes-produced “I Ain’t Heard Of That,” both from his debut album, Already Platinum. But absolute pandemonium ensued when, unannounced, Bun B emerged from the sea of onlookers backstage to join Thugga. The capacity crowd ate it up like ravenous piranhas and one “Rubber Band Man” fan in the upper deck, perhaps caught up in the moment, pulled out a roll of dollar bills and proceeded to make it rain on the concert goers below him.

Bun stayed put to perform “Ridin’ Slow” from his critically acclaimed third solo
effort, Trill O.G, before he acquiesced the stage to his NBA-sized potna.

Always the comedian, Thugga admitted to “not knowing all the words” before tackling tracks off his new LP: “100’s,” “Beat It Up,” “So High” and “Caddy Music” Slim then took a break in the action to toss free tees to all the fans that held their newly bought copies of his CD aloft.

To close things out, the Boss Hogg Outlaw brought out his “street” fam, Z-Ro and the always-animated J-Dawg, to assist on “First 48” and “Coming From” before ending his hour-long set with “Gangsta.”
