Kanye West Refuses to Perform on ‘Today’ Show

Kanye West is not done ranting about his Today show interview from Wednesday (November 10). Earlier this morning (November 12) Yeezy took to his Twitter account again, this time to announce he won’t be performing on the show on November 26, as scheduled.

“I’m not performing on the Today show for obvious reasons,” he typed, later adding, “I blatantly said I’m not performing on a tweet and to everyone around me and the next day they still announced a performance.”

Yesterday, host Matt Lauer addressed Kanye’s string of tweets from earlier in the week, during which the rapper expressed his displeasure with how he was treated. In response, the Today show played a clip from Ye’s interview, including the part that he was upset with—when, during a question, his incident from last year’s MTV Video Music Awards played on the screen. [Watch below]

“If I hadn’t tweeted about how they set me up at the show they would have never played the extra footage that displayed how disrespectful…” he wrote. “I want you guys to look at that footage and start to put everything together now. It’s very simple to call someone angry or spoiled or he one thousand names I’ve been called but it’s harder to try to take a look at what’s really behind the curtain. I’m so happy that my real fans are not as ‘basic’ as the media makes them out to be… Did you see them try to justify playing the audio under my interview. Yo sometimes you’re just wrong and it ain’t nothing you can say to justify it believe me I know! Right now I’m not complaining. I’m tweeting because I’m so happy you guys got to see this shit really go down!!!!! : ))))))!!!! FINALLY!!!

“And I don’t hate Matt Lauer,” he continued. “We don’t promote hate. That’s the whole point!!! I promote love and truth! I accept ya’ll future apology in advance LOL,” West joked.

Reminds of when Matt Lauer interviewed Will Ferell’s character in “Land Of the Lost”, Matt Lauer is an asshole

  • yoprince

yo idk anything about matt lauer really and kanye’s cool or whatever, but what they did on the show really is standard practice, no?

i mean i feel like i’ve seen every talk-style show do that a million times.

unless he pointedly told them before the show not to play that specific clip or not to play any clip while he was talking, i really don’t understand why he’s acting so strange about this.

THe people that hate ye, are the programmed idiots that believe everything they hear and see on tv and radio, they dont make informed decisions on there own, in essence they are drones, sheep if you will. Because anybody with a pulse, if they actually listend to ye, without reflecting there life onto what he says, they will realize he isnt as narcisistic and self serving as you think. He actually doesnt allow people to manipulate him and paint him in the light they want. But you people who disagree with him, dont have the strength or the confidence to stand up to people and allow YOUR TRUE SELF TO SHINE THROUGH!! And you can be a hood dude, or a dude from the burbs, it dont matter. Dont let people tell you what to think and how to be and what to wear. You guys will look back on ye much like i look back on LARRY BIRD!! all the hating i was doing made me miss out on one of the greatest of all time. i wont do that shit again!!!

    @alderman j

A load of bullshit boogie man rhetoric. He’s a narcissistic, self-serving asshole, Period. Honestly, who gives a shit what he thinks is the best video of all time(of ALL time), or what he thinks of the president, or anything else for that matter? And somehow, the conclusion you’ve drawn from all of his fuckery is that his detractors are “programmed idiots” and “sheep”. Really? Funny, if asked, i’d have said something similar about his blind supporters.

If you really feel that strongly about the man, then give him some much needed constructive criticism, and stop allowing him to make excuses for himself.

    I. Don’t. Care.

The more this internet age expands and (d)evolves, the more I miss the audio age. I don’t care about any of this; the only thing that matters to me for any artist is whether they make good music, or not, period. Your ears don’t lie. I meet them at their music because that’s all they have to offer me, unless I choose to want more from them, which is stupid.

Some of the greatest musicians the world has ever seen would never make it today because THEY WERE ASSHOLES IN REAL LIFE. We would pick them apart for that and they would likely implode before they ever made anything beautiful.

    Again, Who. Cares.

  • Woodrow

dude makes music, good music. he’s an artist. he is the way he is. @sealsaa you dont like him get the fuck off of a kanye news post idiot. people you dont like dont get yourself caught in their press.

and sealsaa ask 50 how the soulja boy buttsex is… chuch

This one is kind of a “No Call” to me. It’s good and bad.

GOOD: The media is notoriously trying to get a rise out of whoever they interview simply for ratings. Although the practice of showing a video as the interviewee is being interviewed isn’t new, it’s wrong as shit! It seeks to bring emotions out of the person being interviewed (whether that be anger, sadness, or laughter) and it sets them up for close of camera shots of those emotions.

*If you ask me I think Kanye should have went off on Jay Leno when Leno obviously set him up with the infamous,
“What do you think your mom would say about your behavior?” remark. Jay Leno deserved a bitch slap for that one. Taylor Swift and Kanye’s recently deceased mother had no connection.

Kanye is seriously pissing off white people. Hell, even his fans are getting tired of those TAYLOR SWIFT/ GEORGE BUSH conversations. AND ALL OF THIS TALKING WILL DEFINITELY BE OVERKILL WHEN YOU WALK PASS HIS CD IN ANY STORE. Also, by not performing on Good Morning America, Kanye is hurting HIS BUSINESS. Not Good Morning America’s. To them it’s just one more idiot/angry Black Man not showing up. What Kanye won’t do, someone else will.

Kanye just needs to shut down his mouth. Either that or get a new PR person. But this is getting stupid. He should be in the news because he contributed to some charity or helped someone. But all of this whining is coming across as self-serving cry-baby shit.

    There’s a saying…..

“There’s no such thing as bad press….”

    But that saying SHOULD say,

“There’s no such thing as bad press, as long as you’re white.”

Something tells me Kanye will learn this on FIRST WEEK NUMBERS.

It’s no different than what they would do on CNN or The View for example..they simply played back the clip of what was said…it’s done everyday in show bizness , what makes Kanye special that it should be done any different? He’s only hurting himself in the long run…people who frequent rap site , blogs etc…I would have to say don’t buy the album, they download it for free….people who nothing more than cable, they probably buy albums…..

fuk Kanye & his emotional hissy fit throwing ways.

“by not performing on Good Morning America Today Show, Kanye is hurting HIS BUSINESS”

^ how? I thought most people are out shopping on Black Friday (Nov 26) or chilling with family, and ain’t watching ‘Today Show’ anyway.

What y’all don’t see is NBC/Universal trying to maximize it’s media strength WITH ‘Ye. Yeah these dudes work for the SAME bosses. SNL? NBC/Universal.

These dudes arguing are like the mailroom manager and the outside sales manager arguing at the gig to the execs. That’s Y’ALL giving it more importance.

use that personal day Kanye…Btw the album is crack nuggets.

This man is a diva. Pure and simple. He needs either some spiritual/emotional counseling or a good old fashioned, 1970′s, James Evans Sr. ass whipping.

  • Dubste

As much as I enjoy Kanye Wests music, Lets be honest He’s a fuckin asshole, the reason he has these quips with the media and picks on the Taylor Swifts of the world is because he hasnt got that bad upbringing or Gansta behind him that I’ve experienced and we enjoy listening about, so to provide something himself with something to rap about he does all this bullshit when really if he didnt bother with it and just focused on hiphop he would be a well respected artist, instead he’s the Britney Spears of rap trying to live of ridiculous headlines..

Leave the hardcore stuff to the 50′s and Jays of the world, and going at the political stuff with Nas and Talib’s, just get off your fucking highstool and start producing that good music we all enjoy and that bit of rapping……………………………..
