Diddy Responds to Jay Electronica’s Roc Nation Signing

News broke over the weekend that Jay Electronica is Roc Nation’s newest signee, and the move elicited what seemed to be a mixed reaction from Diddy.

“Damn it hurts in a whole other way when someone you felt and I mean really felt was your Friend, Betrays you,” Puffy tweeted on Saturday (November 13) without naming any names, not long after the reports initially surfaced. “It hurts when [you] Breathe.” Then, this morning, Hot 97′s Peter Rosenberg said on his radio show with Cipha Sounds that Puff informed him he was happy for Electronica, although, he added he was “at a loss for words.”

Diddy had been rumored for several months to have some sort of working relationship with the New Orleans-bred MC, but nothing had been substantiated. Jay had made references to the Bad Boy founder in lyrics and the two collaborated on the track “The Ghost of Christopher Wallace,” released last April.

This morning, however, Diddy again took to Twitter, this time to clear up any speculation of hard feelings. “Before we start the week off with Rumors,” he wrote, “I am not mad at Jay Z! I’m not mad at anyone! Jz was not the friend I was referring 2 Be clear.”

Jay Elec then responded bluntly with his own set of tweets. “You should be more clear than that too brother,” he posted, adding, “betrayal is a serious allegation. real talk. And you know im gonnabe me so i ant gonna be holding my tongue if you gon be out here emotional and wreckless with it.”

Diddy responded once more, seemingly ending any tension that had been mounting. “I proud of you,” he typed with an exclamation point. “I’m happy for you. I love you! I congratulate you’ I’m not mad at you! All I wanna do is see you win! All love.” —Adam Fleischer

Why Diddy is even angry is beyond me. Everyone knows BADBOY is done. Somehow I believe Diddy prides himself as kind of a SUPREME TALENT SCOUT. He took credit for Biggie and now he wanted to sign Jay Electronica to further solidify his place in history as a true talent discoverer.

Problem is, Jay Electronica and others like him pride themselves on being “Real Men”. These 2010 cats pull themselves up by their own individual boot straps. There were rumors that Diddy was courting Jay Electronica for a minute. But I knew that was dead in the water.

Diddy tried this “Mini-Coup” with the other Jay as well (J-Cole). I remember when Cole first signed with Jay-Z’s label and it was reported that Diddy was hittin’ Cole up all the time about “Hangin’ out” at his parties. But Cole refused. Once again, 2010 cats don’t party first, they work first.

And “The Last Train to Paris”? Personally, I think the only reason Puffy is entertaining releasing this is because of Jigga. Why else would Puff release this garbage Vanity Album? It’s because of his deep seated jealousy of Jigga.

I personally think Diddy is feeling the sting of not being “Head Nigga in Charge” any more. Everyone knows Jay-Z holds that title. And maybe Diddy has jealousy towards Jigga. After all, Puff is gettin’ that fashion money (although I think his time is limited on that one with the new Macy’s deal and store closures). Jay-Z is gettin’ that Fashion/Night club/Basketball team/Roc Nation/Broadway/Beyonce in my back pocket, type money.

What goes up must come down. Accept it like a man Puff. At least you still have some Millis and several chicks. Accept the natural progression of becoming what we all must….

“Even twitter said that jay elec. be on that next shit i should be arrested”-The Ghost of Christopher Wallace.

  • ff1one@yahoo.com

now this is news. Yeah, it was funny and Jay Electronica keeps it toooooooooo real.

i gotta disagree that the last train of paris is a get back at jay. especially when jay dropped DOA. Nah, in all honestly, last train to paris sounds pretty darn good. it has already has some hits.

can’t way to the three jay’s do something together. the holy trinity…nasty.

If Diddy feels betrayed, I wonder how G-Dep, Loon, Black Rob & the Lox feel, ha…

  • sealsaa

Yeah, shame on JayE for not Ethering his career. I mean after Biggie, Puff pumped out so many successful artist. For instance, there was…and then…oh, and that group…

Think about them, and the names I left off, the producers, paper pushers who got camera shine and tell me he’s not a good scout for talent.

    Puff:talent scout>>>Jay:talent scout

    @ Don mcCaine…..

    What it do $yk!

Yeah. That comment is truthful. Nobody can take his A&R skills from him. Puff has run across some hellified talent.

    But ask yourself this…..

What was Diddy’s motivation with Jay Electronica and trying to sign him? If he was truly JE’s friend, he wouldn’t have even tried to bring him to Bad Boy. Bad Boy has been reduced to a vanity label now. No hits. If I had a dude that I was cool with, why would I want to bring him to a messed up situation?

Diddy’s a self-serving cat. I personally think Jay Electronica was supposed to be his “New” Biggie. You know…. The new anchor for his label. After all, he recently signed a new deal with Interscope.

And your list of artists Diddy found?

Ask yourself how many of those people Diddy helped develop their careers. Diddy played the parasite and any blind man can see to sign a contract with him is to “Fetch his Cheesecake”.

    @ Sha

Co-sign. Diddy is beyond washed up . Looking kinda desperate to me. First on Rick Ross’s nuts now Jay Elec. Bad Boy has been a vanity label for a minute now. I respect dudes hustle but he’s getting to the point where he is a relic in the game. Biggest labels/crews today are GOOD music and Young Money, with both Jay-Z and to a lesser extent Dame, tryin to sign new cats as well. Whens the last time you heard 50 even talk about signing a new artist? Beanie Sigel? lol and that shit died quick. And wayyyyyyyyyy underneath all them niggaz lies Diddy’s Bad Boy label. Niggaz will go indy today way before they sign with Bad Boy.The best thing you can sign about Bad Boy is at least its not Deathrow lol

    @ Don Mccaine

You present a good case. Diddy was a good talent scout but besides Biggie, most everyone down with dude flopped or semi-flopped. look what happened to Craig Mack, Mase,112, Total, Carl Thomas, Black Rob, G-Dep, Loon, Yung Joc. These cats are nowhere in the game right now with the exception of Black Rob who is makin a lil noise ( dude just signed with Duck Down). Shyne is the poster child for a failed BadBoy artist. Look at what happened when Puff tried to fuck with established acts like New Edition and 8ball and MJG. They flopped.
Not tryin to hate on Diddy cause I do respect him as one of the leading entrepenurs in hip-hop and I respect your arguement for him as a talent scout, but Bad Boy as a label hasn’t been relevant in a long fuckin time. Real Talk.

    • http://www.bboycult.com Don mcCaine

      Mase didn’t flop.

      Total didn’t either.

      Carl Thomas was doing it.

      Yung Joc ate well.

Craig Mack got dwarfed by Biggie.

G Dep got high, so he touched $.

If Puff’s butt-hurt that he didn’t get Jay Elec, that should tell us Jay Elec’s got some heat for the masses. Not so much about Puff’s visions of fame.

  • Sha

Dude, you got me crackin’ up off of that shit!

“The best thing you can say about Bad Boy is at least its not Deathrow.”

    Funny as hell!!!

And it’s true… Cats will definitely sign with an Indie now. Why move to a major and become a slave when you can be a 50/50 Partner and make just as much (if not more) loot as a major?

    Diddy’s done.

    • http://www.bboycult.com Don mcCaine

      “Diddy’s done”

      ^ I don’t see that. He’s everywhere.

If he was in a video c/s’ing Donnis I could see that.

If Bad Boy was in a state like how Death Row IS right now, ’cause you know there are some cats STILL signed to DR, then I could see that too.

Not because Puff’s a wave rider. That’s his forte.
