Snoop Dogg to Release ‘Doggystyle 2: The Doggumentary’

It seems that Snoop Dogg is the next artist in line to record a sequel to his debut album.

Snoop confirmed yesterday (September 1) via a video posted on Swizz Beatz’s twitter account that he is working with the super producer on a follow up to his classic 1993 album. “The album is Doggystyle 2: The Doggumentary,” Snoop said in the video. “Be on the lookout for it you bitches.” [Watch below]

The Cali native said that he and Swizz had recorded 18 tracks already, and that the New York producer had given him a wide range of heat. “Motherfucker gave me some gangsta shit, some Crip shit, some R&B shit, some hip-hop shit, some hard shit, some mean shit,” he said. Kanye West, pictured below, was also in the studio.

K well is he writing himself again? I don’t buy albums of my friends doing 2Pac covers feel me?

    • SupaDupa_Interlude

Cosign that ghostwriting shit. I lost a lotta respect when dude said he had other niggas writing his rhymes.

As far as the album name goes I think its a good idea. At least it will get him more hype/buzz for the album. Its no secret Snoop’s last few albums havent been so hot so I hope he realizes what he’s doing and puts in the effort

    Ugh.

    1993 Dr. Dre >>>>>>> 2010 Swizz Beatz

    • Dinero

Anyday…. He b better off re-releasing with a couple new traccs… I have more than a strange feelin that this album will succ extremely bad and discredit DoggyStyle which is still one of my fav albums of all time…

  • http://xxlmag jayruckNYC

How u gonna make a doggystyle 2 and not have Dre produce the whole thing? FAIL.

    • tysonmike

true, makes me not wanna buy it it aint a sequel to me.

      • Dinero

real shit tho…. if Dre fully produces with that same energy from 92 & 93, hell even 99, 2000, then tha album will b special… And if Detox comes out around the same time, they will both do extremely well… but all in all… I still think its a bad idea….

On anotha note, I think Eminem could of titled Recovery, Marshall Mathers 2… It gave me that feelin…

        • tysonmike

co sign it had that feel from the very first single.

    • GC

Hate to agree but I was thinking the same. Dr Dre should be producing Doggystyle 2 its only right.

    • http://ethantheniceguy.com Terrance

I love Dre because he is the greatest producer of all time but he charges too much and is busy with Detox. It may take Dre 5 years to cook up Snoop with some beats.

  • http://bit.ly/aaSJdT ntd2010

Your 17 years 2 late Snoop….your not that guy anymore.

  • jtm

oh no i thought he was gonna give up rap.

  • The Decatur Dictator

I haven’t like a snoop song since “Beautiful”.

  • Sha

Looks like a case of follow the leader. Everyone’s seeing how Jay-Z took the Blue Print and keeps making money off the sequels. Now everyone wants to do it. You are a true “G” Snoop, but you aren’t in the same vein as Jay-Z. The reason Jigga can do it is because he continues to “control” the game with high quality product. Sorry Snoop. You will lose on this one.

    • Dinero

I wouldnt call it follow the leader cuz Jay is not tha first to sequel an album… But none the less, u r right, Snoop will lose this one… Jay-Z sales cuz he’s Jay-Z… So it doesnt have to be high quality (anything jay touches has quality tho) and he will still go plat wit tha Blueprint 4…. Snoop will sale, but I’m not sure if it would be plaque worthy…

  • Rehani

How the Hell u do a sequel to doggystyle(which was so west coast, so G funk blah blah) and not have Dre produce a single track?!!!? Swizz Beatz?! really?!.. shit jus dont feel authentic to me

  • Inaher

Kanye, Pharrel, Dr. Dre(if you can find him) is clearly the better way to go for that sequel snoop(but u already knew dat)

    • Dinero

Thas a very decent line up, excellent in fact, very expensive as well… but Snoop is a boss so we kno he got loot… but bottom line is that Dre will need to produce over 60% of tha tracc…

  • Inaher

Kanye,Pharrel,Dr Dre(if u can find that nigga) is clearly the better way to go or that album Calvin(but u already knew that)…

  • JC

The only way Snoop will make a TRUE sequel to Doggystyle is 18 tracks produced by Dre, and co-produced by Daz and Warren G…with a TEAM of songwriters/ghostwriters…lol, it took a village to make Doggystyle the classic it is…

  • Money Mitch

Actually the d.o.c. was teh only ghostwriter on the original and d.o.c. helped write thats that shit! So if you want classic snoop you need all tracks produced by dre and all tracks co written by the d.o.c. thats the only way you’ll get the original “Snoop” lol!!

    • kedordu

nah it took a village to make doggy style but . DOC is like the lyrical dr dre . he puts all that g funk gumbo together .

  • Q461

the sequel trend is wack. just like the movies most times, sequel can’t hold a candle to the original. Hov and Weezy and Rae pulled it off, but this seems forced especilly with no contribution from Dre, Warren G, Nate Dogg, Rage, etc. Sorry Snoop.

  • Hannibal Cannibal

    please don’t

  • Hannibal Cannibal

Snoop, Kanye, Swizz and Whiteguy (don’t sleep, he’s next to blow)

  • swype-matic

Swizz Beatz covering most of DOGGYSTYLE 2??? NO THANKS. Not even Swizz’s “hardest” beats could make that a classic.

  • Q!thaGreat!

This doesn’t seem like a good idea. It feels all wrong from start to finish. I don’t know if I would seriously consider buying a Doggystyle 2 that is majority Swizz beatz production. Maybe like one track, but thats it.

Doggystyle was a classic because of the consistency in production, lyrics and innovation! It was a collaberative effort of young artists that were hungry and ferocious for success. It was an anthem for the west coast and already had anticipation from the Chronic. Doggystyle 2 has to emmbody that same approach as well to be sucessful.

I say keep it west coast and go hard. Drop it if Detox drops and does well! If you can’t get Dr. Dre, Daz, Kurupt, Warren G, D.O.C., Nate Dogg Jewell & Rage to get in on it, then put some new west coast life into it. Get Terrace Martin, DJ Quik, or some other young west coast producers in there. Get Crooked I, Horeshoe Gang, Bishop Lamont, Problem, Nipsey Hussle and some young hungry artist in there to showcase their talent! Other wise you just making a mocery of the original classic and deminishing its legacy.

Where has the creativity gone? Ever since the success of OB4CL2 It seems every artist with a classic or marginally successful album wants to throw a NO.2 behind their next project and act like that means it will hold up to the original. I am sick of these copycat antics. Just make an album and stop trying to live off your past success. Marvin Gaye never made “What’s Going On 2: Shits Ruff”, Michael Jackson never made “Thriller 2: Lock Up Your Kids”, John Coltrane never made “Blue Train 2: Real Jazz Muzik” they had a vision and just made the music. Great Music never needed an assist from marketing ploys to get the public’s interest. It’s like when a movie that doesn’t need a sequel is made – it doesn’t necessarily means it’s a bad film but it hurts the legacy of an original classic film. It’s like Iron Man 2 this past summer it was cool but it just wasn’t as good as the first. Sade said it best It’s Never As Good As The First Time – I just wish these artists would listen to those words.

  • Durbey E. Macon

I don’t understand why Snoop can’t show some love to Battlecat or any other West Coast DJ/producer.

    • GC

If Dr Dre can’t be on the production at least have Dj Battlecat, Dj quik, Amplified, Terrace Martin, with a little Daz Dilly producing, with all them new hungry mc’s on west. That would be dope.

  • GC

Snoop is still my boy, but this sequel already sounds like a failed project. Doggystyle 2 should be produced by Dre, if not try battlecat, amplified, dj quik or terrace martin. That will surely make up for Dre’s absence. Have doc in the lab too for the creativity. Think about it snoop before its too late.

i think that if snoop stops pleasing other coasts and sticks to straight west coast he could pull this off and also to produce this album dr dre battle cat meech wells so that means swiss better have some real heaters that can catch everybodys attention

  • kedordu
