Young Buck’s Lawyer Speaks on Bankruptcy Case, Status With G-Unit

As XXLMag.com previously reported, Young Buck’s Hendersonville, Tennessee home was raided by federal agents on August 3, after he failed to pay roughly $300,000 in back taxes. Since then, the former G-Unit rapper, born David Brown, has filed for bankruptcy. Earlier today XXLMag.com called his lawyer, Lynda Jones to speak about the case.

According to Jones, who is very confident in Buck’s case, one of the benefits of filing for bankruptcy is that it allows an individual to break contracts in an effort to reorganize his or her finances.

Does this mean Buck will soon be free from his deal with Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson and G-Unit Records? It’s still too early to tell, but Jones says, “Mr. Brown’s attorneys believe Mr. Jackson breached contract [with Young Buck] and the duty of good faith and fair duty.”

To further explain her point, Jones used an analogy: “[If] you are contractually obligated to teach someone how to swim; you sign an agreement. Then you are giving a swimming lesson [and] you hold the person’s head underwater. You’ve breached that contract.”

Coincidently, Buck is currently prepping the release of his new street album, dubbed The Rehab, for a September 7 release on Real Talk Entertainment. (He dropped a new track from the disc, “Hood Documentary,” on Monday). When asked how her client was legally allowed to put out a new solo record, Jones explained, “he’s not contractually obliged to G-Unit anymore.”

XXL contacted representatives for G-Unit this afternoon, but they refused to comment on Buck’s status with the label.

Buck is expected to appear in court on September 21, pertaining to his bankruptcy proceedings.

“one of the benefits of filing for bankruptcy is that it allows an individual to break contracts in an effort to reorganize his or her finances.”

    ^ remember this

because they’re gonna try to prove 50 was the one who made Buck broke, and Sha Money was helping. While there are videos of Buck doing shows, saying “f^ck G-Unit”, evidence of times and places Buck was getting $.

Labels do what 50 did all of the time, shelving an artist. How many times you hear a rap guy say he sat on the shelf at so & so label? Mad heads out there told Buck stop dissing homie, get back in the studio.

50′s gonna pull out an invoice on what he’s owed, which goes back to the statement I pasted.

    Good luck Buck!

  • tommy gunz

50 already paid like a quarter milli in taxes for buck before the fall out

buck’s tooted up nose and stomach full a codeine fucked his own shit up

    no sympathy

  • Q461

I hate to say i but Bucks career may be over… I just don’t see dude rebounding like Game did….lets see though

  • Sha

Idiots….. Pay attention! This is a lawyer that knows her shit!

I’m surprised that a lot of other artists didn’t get hip to this and pull a Bankruptcy to get out of their contracts. Mase comes to mind….

But this is a catch 22.

If you take care of your money (like Mase did) you will get royally fucked by the label. Why? Because there is no way in hell you can file bankruptcy. And therefore, by the time your finances ARE totally fucked up, you name isn’t relevant any more (like Mase) and no decent label will sign you. So filing bankruptcy after all of that will only do what it was designed to do. Straighten out your personal finances. But your future is done.

Big up to Young Buck for hiring a decent attorney. But I bet that retainer is vicious after this.

IDK about giving her that much praise, and calling cats idiots.

Buck will have to prove he made NO MONEY because of 50 & Sha. There are videos that are online with Buck performing shows, WHICH GENERATE REVENUE. Interviews where he says he has $, he ain’t broke.

Which song or project could Buck point to that would show that G-Unit reneged on their end? Mixtape? Internet viral campaign?

Who’s $ do you think that was who helped Buck beat that serious charge?

What will happen is 50 will show a bill, they will negotiate a number, and Buck will be able to get a fresh start. But because of the timing, 9 outta 10 Buck won’t make any serious coin because he will have to break bread with too many hands and the majority of his fan base has moved on. I don’t see him winning anything close to the 5 mil he wants.

A sad ending to a once promising career, but Young Buck is done. The stigma alone of a bankrupt rapper performing with jewels on talking rich boy talk and hood smack is unbearable. Young Buck, NOT 50, is the one to blame, and like I said before, record labels have been doing the same thing 50 did for years and years and years.

I spent too much money on you, you can’t produce a hit for me to get my bread back, I’ma shelf you until either you make a hit to pay your debt, or your contract runs out, and I MAY sue you for my bread back then, but be damned sure you will be blackballed. You couldn’t make money for me, who else would you do it for?

RIP Young Buck’s rap career. Good luck with your life David Brown.

  • i’m at work and bored

yes Judge. This ass*ole 50 cent took me from the gutter, made me a star, paid me 8 mil, and even payed my taxes 2 years in a row and yes, I was even caught on tape admitting all of this is true and I even admitted that “I WAS WRONG” and still owe 50 cent money but I would like to sue him now, thank you.

    ahahahaha, only in America.

Only females dodge the point and talk about what you did wrong 5-6 years ago!! RIGHT NOW 50 CENT IS BREACHING CONTRACT, if you lamens had ever been involved in an actual contract you would know the executor of a contract that is related to the delivery of a service for pay, cannot turn around and renege by preventing the “contracted” person from making money, it is AGAINST THE LAW!! SO TALK ABOUT THE POINT NOT WHAT THE NIGGA DID 5-6 YEARS AGO, YALL NIGGAS DEBATE LIKE FEMALES!!!!FOR REAL, THATS HOE SHIT!!!

    • http://www.bboycult.com Don mcCaine

This whole ordeal is about Young Buck mishandling his finances, and not being in control of his career. Not a 50 Cent/G-Unit witch-hunt.

“preventing the “contracted” person from making money”

^ there are videos of Buck doing shows, him saying he has $, music all over the internet. Within the last year. Where is the prevention?

on the real, if I was young buck, I would have gotten on my legal representation, and seeking damages alot earlier than what his dumb ass did. If 50 got you locked in contractual mayhem, and you ain’t eating like you should, then do something about it. on another note, I know alot of the niggas making comments would cry like that too, or do some dumb ass shit to get em locked up, if they money was getting fucked up like buck’s too. I honestly don’t think buck is flat ass “yet”, but if he don’t get tighter on his business and focus, his career IS EVEN MORE FUCKED THAN WHAT IT APPEARS TO BE NOW. I HOPE THE “REHAB” GOES HARD AS FUCK!!!!!!!!

“if they money was getting fucked up like buck’s”

^ there are cats on major labels at this very moment going thru this.

Sometimes they are not coming up with an approved song to promote. Some blew thru the budget and started nonsense with the label. Some got pinched.

Buck was still doing shows. But because they weren’t G-Unit shows, and the music Buck was doing wasn’t taken immediately to radio that 50 was breaching?

The best thing that happened for Buck was bankruptcy.

  • rrahha

Bitch ass buck is at it again…tsk tsk tsk…let’s not forget that, using the lawyers analogy, Buck pretty much asked 50 to leave him in the waters alone…he sayed FUCK YOU FIF, AND FUCK THE UNIT…lets not feel so sorry for this dude that we forgot that he brought everything on himself. He’s a turncoat, traitor, FUCKBOY!!! YOU’S A SNAKE, RAT ASS, FUCKBOY BUCK!!!!
