Duck Down Celebrates Their 15th Anniversary in NY [With Videos]

Seminal independent label Duck Down Records celebrated its 15th anniversary last night (July 13) with an epic concert at BB King’s Blues Club in New York. Hip-hop legends past and present were on hand to honor the label’s run and release of the compilation album, 15 Years of Duck Down.

Founders Drew “Dru Ha” Friedman and Buckshot of Black Moon were in the building, along with the label’s most celebrated acts. Everyone from Pharoahe Monch, who stole the show with energetic performances of classics “Simon Says” and “Oh No,” [watch below] to second-generation Duck Down artists Kidz In The Hall graced the stage in celebration of the milestone. Styles P, Talib Kweli, Masta Ace, Immortal Technique, Skyzoo, Jean Grae and Stalley were among guests who came to show their respect to the Duck Down legacy.

The highlight of the night came when the Boot Camp Clik took the stage, performing the classics that built the label and honoring their loyal fans. “Y’all should be on this stage” said Steele of Smif-N-Wessun between songs, “with us applauding you.” Seeing Smif-N-Wessun, Heltah Skeltah and Black Moon, perform seemed to be a reasonable consolation for the appreciative crowd. —Calvin Stovall
