Fat Joe Signs With E1 Music

E1 Music announced today (March 29) that they signed Fat Joe to their roster.

The new deal ends Joey’s distribution deal with EMI, which released his last three albums 2006′s Me, Myself and I, 2008′s The Elephant in the Room and 2009′s Jealous Ones Still Envy 2.

“It’s been a long time coming,” Fat Joe said in a statement. “I have a long history with Alan Grunblatt and everyone at E1. Although it’s a small label, they have the best marketing and promotion staff in the hip-hop game and I’m looking forward to working with then on my new album, The Dark Side.”

The LP is expected to be in stores June 28. The first single off the disc is “Slow Down” featuring Jeezy. —Brooklyne Gipson

I’m surprised he’s lasted on a major label as long as he did. He can always generate one big single but he has never ever been able to move units.

    • GEE

This iz joey crack last chance he betta get it poppin and sell some fuckin records.

  • Rookie

    * chuckles *

    1. I thought Khaled was the homie.

    2. MOP & Slaughter had horrible #’s on E1 in 2K9.

    3. Rae just caked off of EMI last year, with so-so marketing & promo. Good album brings good results, which then comes to mind:

    4. Didn’t Joey drop an album last year on EMI?

  • Worley

Gotta give this guy an E for effort. He drops one mediocre album after the next and still manages to get a deal.

Syk, co-sign on 1,2,3, annnnnd 4. However, I’d like to add a number 5, which goes like this:

Fat Joe has not been relevant for far too long, and will do cardboard numbers for the rest of his life no matter what label he is on now. For the most part, people know him as the “Lean Back” dude or “Make It Rain” and that’s it.

      Yup…

  • Hussle’s Way

  • Justice4All

I’d like to quote a line from scarface’s “Never” song:
“I’ll never talk a ni$$a down, do yo’ thang dawg~!
Never hate a dude for tryin, that’s insane dawg
Get yo’ motherpukin money, that’s the thang dawg”

That should be the rule we follow as hip hop followers, but of course some of us are too weak for that.

    • http://K1ngEljay.com K1ng Eljay

This line popped in my head too. I”m glad you glad it. Co-sign.

  • Justice4All

Oh, I forgot. We should never be concerned with what numbers an artist does, that’s counting his money. If you like it, get it regardless of what the rest of the world thinks. We should start being more leaders than followers. Some of us (and I use the word us lightly) don’t like music because someone else doesn’t like it or because the sales are low. That’s a pathetic way to judge art. If you like it, that’s all that matters-that’s why you see some many folks looking the same, driving the same cars, wearing the same clothes because we are afraid of going against the grain, afraid of stepping out there of some straight manhood stuff. I don’t need another man to validate my hustle homie. You don’t live with me, you aren’t doing anything for me, so why should I care what you think about what I listen to. Man up-is all I’m saying, don’t let numbers (people) dictate what you do.

Now now fellas, no one said f*** Joey or denying his history, but it’s true what was said and has been proven with his last couple of releases.

Now if they said he signed a deal with Sony/ATV I’d be jovial. There’s money $ in that move.

  • http://federalranga.blogspot.com Federal Ranga

Like anybody is really surprised by this at all.

  • Justice4All

@ $yk: Again saying “there’s money in that move” is counting that man’s money.” As we can see from the current climate of the music industry, music & money don’t mix. We as supporters, fans or whatever, should not be concerned about what his take home pay is. What we should be concerned about is what’s the music like. It’s like pro sports, everybody is out there counting another man’s yearly salary. For what? Does it make us richer? Nope. It makes us ignorant though for checking for what’s in someone elses’s bank account. I wish hip hop was hip hop. When the pioneers came out, nobody gave a rat’s A$$ what they were making, we just wanted to hear the music. “Fresh Fest”!

    • http://www.bboycult.com $yk

      There’s money $ in that move=making a wiser business situation/maneuver

      ^ pardon my slang

I’m just asking why he didn’t think bigger at this point in his career, he helped that whole Fla movement get on to turn around later and sign an E1 deal. Doesn’t compute.

And once the media stops reporting financial figures and these rap guys stop showing/talking/throwing money, then we can have something else to talk about, like how we used to.

  • TheWayIDoIt

Joe’s been around for a while,so you gotta give him his respect for that.

  • Mcing

No doubt, beleive it or not,my favorite Fat Joe album is Don Cartagena. It had a lot of hot beats on it as well as lyrics.

l think peeps do have respect for Fat Joe, its just that his last 2/3 albums totally sucked balls!! l respect that he has been in the game a long time, l dont care how much mula he is making ! But like Syk says, untill rappers stop rapping about their swag and money then we will stop comparing!

  • Jhon da Analyst

I used to like Joey’s shit, but when he left the BX for Miami that was the start of his ending. Ridin the South’s dick is something a true NYer would never do. Fuck Joey!

    • Afi K. Jam,es

Actually it was pun’s death that really started the downfall of fat joe, not his moving to miami, joe’s been in miami since the pun era.

NY hasn’t been good since 1997-2000, ya’ll have lost your ways, yourselves.

  • qk

so the fuck what !!!!!! this dude is gonna go double wood again!!!!!!! go check the wanted ads fat fuck!!!!!!!

  • El Tico Loco

How do you go from the D&D days with DJ Premier to Miami with DJ Khaled? That’s some back assward shit right there he had what it took to become a latino rap legend but he went pop like snot bubbles, and his sellout was so transparent it wasn’t gonna work. He need to take a page Nore’s book and start trying to get the streets back the rest will follow

For everyone in this room…..remember that fat joe represents NEW YORK to the FULLEST TRUE HIP HOP…he’s been around longer then 90% of rappers within the past 20 years. Joey’s been doing it, regardless of records sales.
Who ever has negative comments to say about fat joe you clearly and obvioulsy “don’t know the business of music”. You probably watch MTV all day long and listen to radio all day long that constantly pay to have their music re-run music 20 times a day….you just don’t know MUSIC. Youngsters please…… don’t compare and don’t try to correlate record sales with music……open your eyes.
Fat joe represents real music from New York…
How much of that do we really have now-a-days anyway..
KEEP IN MIND THAT “KOCH RECORDS” (NOW CALLED E1 MUSIC, is fat joes new label) PAYS THEIR ARTISTS ABOUT $5-$8 DOLLARS FOR EVERY ALBUM SOLD….HHMMMMM. LETS DO THE MATH FOR THE IGNORANT HATER……..SO WHAT THAT MEANS IS THAT IF FAT JOE ALBUM “ONLY” GOES GOLD AND SELLS 500000 RECORDS, HE JUST MADE *********$3.5 MILLIONS DOLLARS*********….. AT THE SAME TIME IF ANOTHER BIG LABEL ARTIST SELLS 6 MILLIONS ALBUMS/UNITS (6 TIMES PLATINUMS) OR 12 TIMES MORE RECORDS THAN FAT JOE DID….THIS 6 TIMES PLATINUM ARTIST STILL HASN’T MADE AS MUCH MONEY AS FAT JOE- ONLY MAKING 3 MILLIONS DOLLARS (@ .50 CENTS PER ALBUM SOLD).
    WHOS THE SMART ARTIST NOW…..
KIDS…..PLEASE LEAVE BIG MAN BUSINESS ALONE…..ESPECIALLY IF YOU DON’T KNOW WHAT YOUR’RE TALKING ABOUT….
    OUUUUCHH..SORRY FOR THAT.

MAKE THAT PAPER JOE….THESES FOOLS DON’T KNOW…THEY JUST DON’T KNOW.
