Snoop Dogg Signs Cypress Hill to Priority Records

Earlier today (January 15) Snoop Dogg announced that he has signed Cypress Hill to the newly re-launched Priority Records.

“My role as Creative Chairman of Priority Records has put me in the driver’s seat to help revive the most important West Coast hip-hop label,” Snoop said in a press release. “As such, I’m excited to announce my first signing as Cypress Hill. Cypress Hill is undeniably one of the most important hip-hop groups in music history, not only are they incredibly talented and the first Latino hip-hop group to go platinum, they are also from the West Coast- so this signing is the perfect marriage.”

Snoop also expressed his desire to revive Priority Records’ classic catalog as well as sign new Left Coast artists to the iconic label. He’s already got the ball rolling in doing so with the USDA Uncut Snoop Dogg Approved album which he says will include, “ timeless records that… really need to be brought back to life again- Master P, Ice Cube, N.W.A.” He also wants to release The West Coast Blueprint a compilation album that he says will show what Priority is all about.

In the mean time, Cypress’ Rise Up, the groups’ first major release in six years, is scheduled for release on April 6. —Brooklyne Gipson

Good Move & News. Hopefully Muggs won´t have any Arguments with the Neptunes :)

  • General

Thats good for Cypress Hill, but if Snoop really wants to make the West shine again through Priority he needs to get some of new west cats signed and CD’s out…

I forgot all about Priority. Co-sign Refried, that Black Sunday was fiya! Looking forward to the new album. Snoop and B-Real, perfect marriage indeed.

  • SOUTHSIDE A-TOWN

wow! i picked the wrong week to slow up on the herb smoke.

  • Sozzay

You do realize that Hand on a pump wasn’t on “Black Sunday” right?

  • http://xxl All Dae

hand on the pump indeed. just dont release any Cypress Hill rock songs. Save those for the concert. i’m trying to zone to dr. green thumb.

Why sign them, the ga,e needs something new! Not a good move, they would be best going independent, they got a good fan base.

      Like who?

    A couple of predictions…

Snoop & B-Real doing something with a Cheech & Chong motiff (tour, movie, webisode, etc.)

    &

Assuming they go on a tour together, more police stops on their bus than Lil Wayne. Possibly drug possession charge(s) in some hick-ass city(s).

I’m glad Snoop is taking a position that sounds like it was made up for the owner’s son, & really doing something with it.

  • NAPTOWNNUISANCE

This is great news indeed.Im glad someone such as Snoop and Cypress Hill are in a great position to help resurrect some of the best rap in history and breathe some new life into the west coast rap scene. Two of my favorite rappers from that era in Snoop and the Hill. Now Snoop needs to step his rap game back up. He really needs to kill the whole freestylin shit cus he is better when he writes his shit like he did with Death Row.

    Future saleswrap post:

Cypress Hill bottom out the chart with 170 copies sold, debuting at a solid #198 on the Billboard 200. With special guests Paris, Cormega, E-40 and 4 unidentified independent Latino rappers, we here at XXL were expecting better.

In related news, Cappadonna was spotted bartering his own autographed cds outside a New Jersey target for diapers and Jif.

Shoutout to Snoop for doing this. Hopefully we can see sum success emerge from it.

  • El Tico Loco

Does that mean a re release for Reasonable Doubt too?

  • Fireforreal

Really is it a good look just because Priority reps the west ? It hasn’t done shit since the mid-late 90′s when they had Ice cube, mack 10 and the No limit deal. Priority is of the past that’s why all they release is remastered cube and Nwa shit because that’s all they have is the past. Is anyone checking for Cypress hill in 2010 ? nope. Snoop should get it poppin with the best up in coming rappers from not only the west but the east and the south.

  • NAPTOWNNUISANCE

Yeah thats because that music from the 90′s is considered classic which cant be said about most music today and fans of Cypress Hill still check for them.So props to Priorty for picking someone who is more than capable of reaching out and getting some things done about resurrecting the sound and feel from that era and signing some new up and coming talent.

  • NotoriousAGC

I think this is SNoop’s chance to get the west back in shape and NOT include any eastcoast rappers. He could try and make a new DeathRow without all the bullshit, and Cypress hill..
never really liked em’ cept for like 2 or 3 bangers.
