Update: Big Boi Not Relocating to Def Jam, Says Rep

Back in July, OutKast rapper Big Boi announced that he would be leaving his longtime label Jive Records and joining the Def Jam roster under the tutelage of his former boss, L.A. Reid.

Last summer, the Atlanta MC told Toronto’s Eye Weekly that he was on the verge of signing a deal with the legendary hip-hop label and it was just a matter of time before it was official. “The lawyers just have to finish their lawyering,” he said.

Five months later and there has been no word on Big Boi’s label status. XXLMag.com recently spoke to Big’s publicist, who said the ATLien is still with Jive. Apparently the label now plans to release his long delayed disc, Sir Luscious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty in February 2010. —Max G

Big Boi’s album is being delayed because he hasn’t produced a breakaway hit for the project and I can see why the label is hesitant in releasing a whole album. It’s not like this is a sure bet [Nowadays what is?]. I wish him luck but I wouldn’t be surprised if this gets pushed back again or scrapped altogether for whole new project.

Yeah Big Boi’s music isn’t the greatest ear catcher, but if u listen to it, that shit is relevant and he goes hard. Plus, the composition of their (Outkast) music is so detailed that it makes him “down by law” as Snoop would say.

That song he leaked with Andre and Raekwon was tight as hell. i still think these labels is overthinkin shit.

If that was released as a single, along with a tight video, nobody can’t tell me that niggas won’t be checkin for the album.

I agree, if Big would’ve done a vid for “royal flush” that would’ve been the perfect set up for the album.

It looks like this album might not be coming out. I dug the songs that leaked and I was looking forward to the album. But, seriously this album is like 2 years late this point I just don’t see it happening.

God closed that window, Daddy Fat Sacks, & unfortunately has yet to open a door.

Even Drake got pushed back. No one is safe these days!
