After Kanye West crashed the stage at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards, we asked our readers if they thought that his interruption of Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech would have any affect on his career and the majority of you voted “no.”
Although Ye was booed off the stage and kicked out of the ceremony for snatching the microphone from 19-year-old Swift’s hands, our readers still believe that Ye will bounce back from this incident.
When asked “Will the backlash from Kanye’s Taylor Swift tirade affect his career?” 1,153 respondents (39 percent) answered “yes” while 1,798 (61 percent) readers said “no.”
Ye cut in on Swift’s acceptance of a moonman for Best Female Video to announce that Beyonce had “one of the best videos of all time.” He has since appeared on The Jay Leno Show to acknowledge his wrongdoing and to apologize to Taylor Swift publicly after already doing so twice on his personal website.
On Sept. 15, Taylor Swift appeared on The View to talk about the VMA incident. Later, representatives for The View told The Associated Press that Ye called Swift immediately following her appearance on the episode. “After the show he spoke personally to the country music superstar via telephone and has apologized to the 19-year-old singer,” a statement from The View read. “She has accepted Mr. West’s apology. The contents of the phone call are to remain private.”
So far Kanye West is still welcome to attend the 2009 BET Hip Hop Awards, at which he leads with nine nominations. -Brooklyne Gipson
