Drake’s “Successful” Producer Signs to Hip Hop Since 1978

Drake’s longtime engineer and producer Noah “40” Shebib has joined the famed Hip-Hop Since 1978 family.

Known for producing the bulk of Drizzy’s critically-acclaimed So Far Gone mixtape, including the monster single “Successful,” XXLMag.com recently caught up with 40 to talk about his new management deal.

“Working around Drake so much and with G and [Cor]Tez {Bryant] and everybody you know, [I] ended up becoming very close with them,” 40 said. “Coming from Toronto and New York City where Hip Hop Since 1978 is based is like a second home to me. It was an easy fit.”

Headed by power duo G. Roberson and Kyambo “Hip-Hop” Joshua, HHS1978 is known for propelling the careers of some of today’s biggest artists. They were largely involved in the day-to-day operations of Roc-A-Fella Records since it’s inception and were largely responsible for getting Kanye West his deal. Along with Ye they also manage the high profile careers of Lil Wayne and Young Jeezy.

As previously reported the retail version of So Far Gone – a seven song EP version of the mixtape that was released this week— is expected to move around 55,000 to 60,000 units even though all of the songs have been available for free on the internet over the past year.

“It’s a blessing, an honor and I’m just so happy and humbled,” 40 said of the estimated numbers. “It’s funny like things are happening so fast for us. We’ve covered a lot of ground in the last year. So it’s like, it’s hard to even, all these little accolades it’s hard to really appreciate them sometimes you know because they come so fast you know and there’s so many of them. So it’s like you know, every once in a while you gotta stop and be like ‘oh wow we’re moving units,” that’s crazy.”

Despite his new management team, 40 says his main focus is Drake’s major label debut, Thank Me Later. The highly-anticipated album is set to hit shelves in February 2010. – Brooklyne Gipson with reporting by Jesse Gissen

    HMMMMM…

No news on the Kia Shine issue on XXL?

Drake said he wrote it(Best I Ever Had). Kia Shine said he wrote it.

Kia Shine put up pictures of his BMI(publishing) awards for the song.

    Who’s lying????

Or it’s swept under the rug because it’s Drake The Anointed…

Can you link me to a picture where I can read what’s on those plaques…cus all I saw was Kia holding up 2 plaques, but I couldn’t read what those plaques said.

      • $ykotic/Don McCaine

I know you’ve probably done your due diligence already, but it’s actually 3 awards, @ bmi.com.

Can’t fabricate that. The buzz is from the media being surprised, not him hating. Drake’s business IQ is on quarter tank. But episodes like this happen all the time. Good thing Kia publishes his stuff.

Have you seen that blog Nino Bless dropped @ HHDX? Some realness there too.

Good job Noah! You made good beats and sounds for Drake. To put yourself on the map. I am a beginning Sound Engineering myself. When I get this down pack. Everybody better watch out. I will be the best Beat Maker and Sound Engineering,DJ,Flim Maker all in one pack.
