Young Jeezy Graces XXL‘s September Cover

Throw him on the mag! Young Jeezy graces XXL Magazine’s 12th Anniversary (September) issue.

Jeezy and Foxy Brown posed for split anniversary covers for last year. In the cover story, Mr. 17.5 discusses his upcoming album, his feuds with DJ Drama and Gucci Mane and taking it back to the trap.

Additionally, in celebration of its 12th year, XXL spoke to 50 Cent, Juvenile, Nelly, Fat Joe, Common, Damon Dash and Baby, among others, about their favorite XXL covers and some of the mag’s greatest moments.

The issue also includes a feature on the death of the super-producer and Shakur, the lead girl in Drake’s “Best I Ever Had” video, appears in Eye Candy.

XXL‘s 12th anniversary issue hits newsstands August 11th.

Of course…why would you put Slaughterhouse on the cover? Your fan base is clamoring for it. I guess I missed it that the world is begging for ANOTHER Jeezy cover.

    FAIL.

    • NAWLEDGE

Why put Slaughterhouse? They’re only the most talented rap group we’ve had in the past 10 fucking years. That doesn’t deserve a cover!

And why listen to fans? Just ignore us and put yet ANOTHER over the top “gansterism” cover. All we ever do is contribute our hard earned dollars to the magazine.

      EPIC FAIL

    • http://XXLMAG Ellio

ummmm real talk, all this shit about Slaughterhouse is well….dumb. ya’ll wanna talk about people deserving a cover, well hopefully we can get J. Cole on the cover soon. J. Cole is better than all of Slaughterhouse.

      J. Cole is the future not a bunch of battle rappers that been in the game too long and still haven’t blown up. i just call it how it is

      • Ron

Ellio, never speak on hip hop again.

    • RiZob

your average hip-hop fan doesnt even kno Slauterhouse exist…only “the online community” kno of them….if your girl…a simple rule, if your girl knos nothing about them, then they are not popular enough for any cover….sad…but real talk nonetheless…

  • Kingsley

Slaughterhouse, I’ll excuse you for that veil of ignorance. They need to sell some records before they can be granted covers.

    • Curtis75Black

      @Kingsley

They need to get the exposure, so they can sell records. Exposure outside of Internet blogs and leaked tracks !! What the Hell is Jeezy gonna talk about that we don’t even know right now. His beef with Gucci? Another wack trap rapper !! This magazine is (and I’m going on the ledge here) the last of a dying breed and if they don’t start respecting Hip Hopfpr what it is and not what it portrays, it’s just gonna be another VIBE in 6 months!!

      • Kingsley

A XXL cover will not sell you records, look at the Hood 2 Hood cover how many units will they sell. Jeezy has an album currently in the works< what will Slaughterhouse have to discuss, but a album that won’t even see Rick Ross first week numbers. Even though I hate to say it you need more than skills on the mic to sell records, if these guys were so talented why cant cant they didn’t their previous labels want them.

  • romil

Cmon yall know what it is. They give the cover to whoever is putting out that dough. Slaughterhouse gotta get some paper up…

  • David HussleSoft

Clearly a lot people have lost touch with reality. I like SlaughterHouse and I would want them to have the cover but lets be serious the average music listener does not know who the fuck they are. XXL has to move units to stay open nobody is gonna pick up a SlaughterHouse cover except for niggaz on the net,and most the internet niggaz dont leave there computer screen enough to pick up a mag. Thats just the reality of the situation. If you really want SlaughterHouse to get the cover by 3 copies of their album and convince people that normally would not the buy album to go cop it. Until then I will be waiting for that 50/Jay-Z double cover in October you know its comin right lol

David HussleSoft cuz I stay on Ye watch lol

  • General

XXL is killin me with this cover shit. We all been askin for the SlaughterHouse cover, but I honestly never expected to see one. I think people got legitimate arguments that SlaughterHouse has to prove something, but at the same time how the fuck you put Gucci Mane and Oj on a cover??? (Pauses waiting for Detroit’s response hatin on Buddens and givin love to Gucci)…..

It would just be nice to see the fans input actually taken into consideration from time to time on your covers, but again, at the end of the day we know its all about what label is puttin up the bread to get their artist on the cover instead of actually covering the artists fans want to see…

XXL is just one more arm of the PR wing of the major labels, which equals fail for the fans…

The average music listener does not know who SlaughterHouse is. I like slaughterhouse but outside of the internets nobody fucks with them like that. And if your honest with yourself you have to admit thats the truth. Not to mention I doubt that anybody on here has bought a XXL mag in months obviously XXl is trying to cater to you cuz you dont cop the mag anyway. If you want SlaughterHouse to get the cover cop multiple copies of the album the only they gettin the cover is if they move units. @ EVERYBODY WHO IS TALKING ABOUT SLAUGHTERHOUSE

Are y’all niggas serious? Some of y’all get on the internet and think this shit is actually the world.

Those niggas are not famous in the real world. Nobody knows them unless you get on the internet. NEWSFLASH: MOST OF THE HOOD IS STILL NOT ON THE INTERNET. Just because xxlmag.com fans are begging for them, does not mean other people want to see them.

Go ask your girlfriend, or your sister, who Joe Budden, Crooked, Joell Ortiz or Royce is. Unless they are from New Jersey, Long Beach, Brooklyn, or Detroit, then you will hear crickets nigga. Ok then.

This shit is a business. Stop playin

    • Curtis75Black

      @Enlightened,

The XXL mag is not just in the United States and Hip Hop is worldwide and if you think that just because we talk about them everyday, no one else on the world is, you are crazy !! Don’t think just because they haven’t dropped a cd, no one is talking other than us. Overseas gives more love to our emcee’s and Culture than we do. SlaughterHouse needs the exposure to get that worldwide dough, especially since the majority of ya’ll USA fans will just download the cd and blame it on the other person for not supporting.

  • Fuck Slaughterhouse

yall faggot ass underground dick suckin nerds are funny, stop bitchin that some un heard of group didnt land the cover instead of a multi platinum star, aint a good business move, get a tampex you fuckin pms-ing bitches

  • Knowledgeable

XXL is on the wrong side of history on this one. Slaughterhouse hasn’t blown up yet, but if they were to get the right exposure, they would.

XXL blew a chance to play a significant role in the evolving hip-hop culture. Rather than be trendsetters, the mag decided to play it safe with a run of the mill young jeezy cover. They’re missing out on actually doing something special.

  • http://tonygrands.blogspot.com Tony Grand$

Some of y’all cats make some very good points.

I understand why they chose a Jeezy cover; politics, finance, relevance (yes he is, over-all). It makes sense that you put someone on there who is a stable fixture in the music. Not to mention, I’m almost positive he has an album dropping soon or something. We all may not think he’s the illest rap dude (which, by all standards, HE IS NOT!), but he’s been around for quite some time. & unless Gucci has something to do with it, he ain’t going anywhere.

I also understand why SH isn’t on the cover. The flip side of that, though, is that a cover would almost certainly give them a needed boost in the publicity department. But, in a day where print media isn’t able to be so liberal with giving artists’ shine, it makes sense. Granted, if/when SlaughterHouse becomes a more viable commodity (ie selling mags just because they’re on the cover), of course they’d be on more covers & cover stories. I guess for all the dues they paid respectively, now they are starting from scratch, paying dues collectively. In comparison to the industry right now, SH should most definitely get the cover, & any other still-breathing mags to celebrate the album release. But, realistically, it’s not the time. EPMD said it best, “Business Never Personal”.

Give them some time. They’ll get the cover when its supposed to happen. They can always be all over JoeBuddenTv in the meantime.

I’ve heard the argument made that the Freshman 10 was also a group of people that XXL passed along who were relatively unknown. Well the difference is that the Freshman were people who hadn’t had there big shot yet and were on the bubble. Slaughterhouse however, has had their chances individually and have, so far, failed in their own matters. Which is why they joined up like Voltron to crush the competition. Won’t happen…Promise.

Are the people at XXL Mag fucking retarded? They need to put SLAUGHTERHOUSE on the cover. They are more relevant right now than Jeezy who has no new things coming out.

yo, whats up xxl. i bet this is your first letter from ghana and in fact africa. i have been a fan of your mag for close to four years now( you can peep my collection from dec 2006). i just wanted to shout out and let y’all know you have fans down here too and infact the world over. i think it’ll be real dope if y’all had an illustration issue where y’all could have all your photos in art sketches or paintings. i see mike thompson has been doing great work for y’all from time to time. and in this issue artists could talk about their relationship to art cause after all art also comprises of hip hop. y’all often just feature the music aspect. rep the four elements of hip hop and the moniker hip hop on a higher level would really make sense.make sure y’all print this letter so all the ppl who been saying i been wasting my savings on the mags would be put to shame. y’all finni holla back and we could really discuss this dream issue. question…is bonsu thompson from my country cause his name sounds like it. neways y’all do good work and iam still collecting the mags. peace.
