T.I.’s Paper Trail Comes to an End, Re-Release Shelved

T.I.’s Paper Trail is stopping short.

According to mtvnews.com, the re-release of his sixth album—dubbed Paper Trail: Case Closed—has been shelved indefinitely.

“The re-release is definitely not happening,” a spokesperson from Atlantic Records told MTV News. “We plan on releasing the additional songs digitally.”

The encore release of T.I.’s sixth album was scheduled to hit stores in August with five new tracks, in addition to those hosted on the original release.

As XXLMag.com previously reported, the Atlanta rapper filmed two clips for the re-release before reporting to jail in May. The video for his Mary J. Blige collaboration, “Remember Me,” hit the Internet yesterday (July 13), yet plans for the second clip are unknown and reps for Tip had no comment at press time.

There is also no word on what songs or videos from the project will drop on the Web.

According to Nielsen Soundscan, T.I.’s Paper Trail has moved 1,977,000 units since its September 30, 2008 debut, making it Tip’s best selling album. –John Kennedy

I wonder why the Re-Release was shelved? Were they going to add more songs or something to it?

  • $ykotic

Paper Trail is banging, no doubt. It will hit 2 mil.

But I agree a re-release is not needed. There’s more $ in that album he’s writing right now behind bars.

Now thats a smart move…why waste producing cds in this day and age when its better to release the extra tracks online? I guess the record companies are learning a little something…

  • harmen

damn man it shows that the label can do whatever since tip is in jail he pretty much has no say on the matter

  • harmen

the label prbly thinking we’ve milked this album for as much as we could n there would be no point to put out a re-release that sells 75 000 first week and barely breaks 250k… and seeing that t.i. is in jail he has no say on the matter LOL

T.I. is the shit no doubt! He is the best thing still behind bars & all. I’m sure this man (T.I.) is not stupid. I’m sure he had everything work & tweke before he was lock up so I’m sure he has alot to say.

  • brand-new

yeah i think re-releases are dumb. if anything hit us up with a unreleased type album like nas’s lost tapes. re-releases are good for like 5, 10 year anniversary type shit.

    Why am I not surprised?

Can ya’ll believe 3rd Testicle had the nerve to pull a Diddy and rename himself 3T like thats supposed to be hard or some shit… pure pathetic.

Some artists best shit comes out when they behind bars… I agree… wait. Matter of fact, stick those tracks WITH the tracks from T.I.’s next album. Makes more sense right?

Whats up son? Saw your video on youtube. I m proud that you have come out the closet or should I say gas station. It ain’t easy for a young gay black man in this day in age to be so open, but you’ve done well. And don’t worry that only 17 or 18 people total watched it. Keep up your hustle cuz we know that one day you will show all these haters and become assistant bathroom attendant at the shell station

Good. I never cared for Paper Trail. It’s full of sold out pop songs. I dont’t understand why ppl liked this album.

I’m glad they’re not re-releasing Paper Trail, that’s just a cheap move done to boost sells, it also seems like a slap in the face to people who bought the album the first time it came out.

      Fuck Emotions! it’s business.

Yo, check out this website. They got a leaked song that Ludacris has written for Dr.Dre’s Detox album. Its weird because Luda’s is rappin but speaking as if he is Dr.Dre….check it out..]

I am going to guess the re-release would be hard to promote as well with the artist not be there. We’ve seen our fair share of releases by such artists as Jay, Twista, Busta, Mariah & Etc. but without the star doing the rounds to promote and do the videos it’s a hard sell in such lean times. To make a digital only release will generate some cash but I think they even know it’s unlikely the extra tracks will push excellent numbers without a sensational standout track.

Who cares,i rather sit back and rock hip hop classics like P.M Dawn’s first album.
Ya’ll just wait until Terrence Howard drops his hip hop album under his Dj character.I guarantee my dude gots next. Check my soulja boy blog out.

yea i heard dis morning. not surprised & it was only gonna have 5 new trax on there anyway, we’re not missing anything.
Paper Trail, if u ask me, showed T.I.’s growth as a rapper & artist. i mean if your name aint Jeezy, u can only rap about da same shit for so long before ya fanbase start to find some other shit to listen to.
dats why Tip stands out from da rest of the pack. his albums (most recently) have substance, talking bout real shit dat niggaz actually go thru too & relate to. i cannot wait to here some of dat FIRE shit he gon release once he is released from behind the walls.

& co-sign geico lizard on the Killa Kill from da Ville & Dro albums. A-Town needs it. (which reminds me, i’m gonna lose my mind if i hear ‘best i ever had’ one more got damn time)!!!

  • Cool Steph

Yo have you guys heard Def Jam’s new artist Mr. Finley yet… dude sounds like he’s the truth and he’s from Vegas.

    Check out his video intro:

I heard his new album “The Talented Mr. Finley” going to be hot!

Listen to his new track “Any Night Of The Week.”

I’m glad they ain’t rereleasing that shit, Paper Trail was his worst album anyway. I thought T.I. vs. TIP was bad, but Paper Trail was straight garbage. I mean, if you like a hip-hop album full of hip-pop and R&B collabos, duets with Rihanna, Justin Timberlake and Mary J. Blige that’s cool, but if not than you probably feel about it like I do. Swagger Like Us was aight, but ain’t shit Tip has done in the last two years can touch anything he did before King.

paper trail was a good cd, but it was too different from his usual repoitoire(sp)for alotta ppl to grasp, and he only recorded the shit like that to basically sell a public service announcement, and to show the judge he aint just part-time with him “changing”…thats wat i wud bet at least, and i wouldnt b suprised if he came out, with no more risk of gettin trouble to go back to TIP and spit wat he been known to spit…but yea, that re-release is stupid anyway, i co-sign wat the label doin
