Q-Tip’s Shelved Album Set To Hit Shelves

A year after his critically acclaimed album The Renaissance hit shelves, A Tribe Called Quest co-founder Q-Tip is set to release his shelved 2002 set, Kamaal the Abstract.

The genre-hopping disc, which will be released on Battery Records on September 15, was produced entirely by Tip and features members of legendary jazz man Miles Davis’s band.

Q-Tip dropped The Renaissance on November 4, 2008. Since its release it has sold 131,200 copies according to Nielsen SoundScan. His 1999 solo debut Amplified has been certified gold with 676,300 units moved. –Elan Mancini

His 2002 album had andvance copy sent to radio and some record stores and the feedback was not goo because he tried to get his singin on like andre 3000 on every track and had really no rhymes just singin over jazz beats lol

  • Fort Smith

131,200 copies? That’s all? Unbelievable!!! This was an excellent album Tip, don’t stop homeboy!!!

  • Knowledgeable

I copped the Renaissance and it was hands-down one of the best albums of 2008. Not enough of ya’ll came out to support him though and ya’ll definitely missed out.

I’m probably copping this next joint, depending how my financial situation is at the time lol.

  • MUNGOLOID

whoever thought it was a good idea to shelve q-tip should be assasinated.

  • Nate

Renaissance is one of my top 10 or 20 records I keep playing from last year. Anybody can listen to it and enjoy it.

  • Q! tha Great!

The Renaissance was is sh*t!!(If you a true Hip-Hop head) ONE of the most slept on LP’s of last and this year!!! I mashed out to work with that for like three weeks!

yeah it is a shame that the real hip-hop is getting lost with time and the support isn’t there anymore. Q-Tip is one of those rare artist that can make something i can listen to for more than a day and listen through the whole disc. I’m getting that Kammal the Abstract, because I know he’ll have someting much more interesting to to give than the BS out right now.

  • John Cauner

I gotta catch up with “The Renaissance.” I heard the singles, just not the album yet. And I had friends sending me links for it, just never made time to hear it. No excuses now! Gotta support good artists like Q-Tip and not let good rap slip by.
