Fresh off the critical success of his production work on Mos Def’s new disc, The Ecstatic, indie staple Madlib has announced an upcoming project with Detroit rapper Guilty Simpson.

The collaborative album, dubbed OJ Simpson (Madlib’s real name is Otis Jackson, hence the OJ tag) is described by label Stones Throw as “14 hard hitting, straight from the gutter hip hop tracks.” It will feature guest spots from fellow Rock City MC Elzhi of Slum Village and West Coast group Strong Arm Steady (Krondon, Phil the Agony and Mitchy Slick).

Both Madlib and Guilty Simpson are known for their multitude of joint projects. The Beat Konducta has done full-length albums with Talib Kweli (Liberation), the late J Dilla (Jaylib) and MF Doom (Madvilliany). Simpson has a separate group with Sean Price of Heltak Skeltah and Detroit sample maestro Black Milk called the Random Axe.
