Update: Kid Cudi Reveals “Trippy” Man on the Moon Concept, Disc Pushed Back To Sept.
Prior to his sold out performance with Asher Roth at New York City’s Nokia Theatre last night (July 15), Kid Cudi visited the Angie Martinez show on Hot 97.
During the interview the G.O.O.D. Music signee spoke confidently about his upcoming debut album, Man on the Moon, originally set to hit stores next month, but what has since be moved to September. “ [It will] probably [be] the most magnificent album you will ever hear this year guaranteed,” he said, seemingly taking a cue from mentor Kanye West. “Bet on that.” [Listen here]
The Cleveland rapper/singer said the disc was going to have a dream concept throughout, that’s “really trippy.” What I did was I tried to make a story that you could follow along to,” he explained. “So the track listing is somewhat of a table of contents like something you would see in the beginning of a script. It’s broken down into five acts, there’s three scenes on average per act. Each scene is a song. Each act has a title and it tells you what part of the dream is happening because the whole album is a dream. And there’s nightmares so each song that’s a nightmare will have the title nightmare next to it so you’ll be in that state of mind when you listen to it.”
Cudi played several cuts from his forthcoming LP last night, including a song called “Heart Of A Lion,” which Cudi said was only the second time he ever performed it live.
