Big Boi Moving to Def Jam

After facing numerous album pushbacks at Jive, OutKast rapper Big Boi recently announced that he would be leaving his longtime home for L.A. Reid’s helmed Def Jam Recordings.

During an interview with Toronto paper Eye Weekly, the ATLien confirmed the deal would be official once the legal paperwork is out of the way. “The lawyers just have to finish their lawyering,” he said.

Daddy Fat Sacks said that once the ink is dry, his disc Sir Luscious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty, will be released on the storied label, run by his former boss LA Reid. Reid originally signed OutKast to LaFace records back in 1992. “He’s been with us since the beginning,” the rapper told eyeweekly.com.

Sir Luscious Left Foot was initially set to drop last year, but has faced several delays since. Last July he released the video for “Somethings Gotta Give” with Mary J. Blige and many other cuts have also hit the net including, “Ringtone,”  “Dubbz” and ”Royal Flush” with partner in rhyme Andre 300 and Raekwon.

As of press time there has been no statements from either Jive nor Def Jam.

Big is currently on the Rock the Bells tour. He is set to play Boston tomorrow (July 18). –Max G

    Forever Ever?

Sorry…I’d be more interested in a full Outkast project that wasn’t associated with a bad movie.

Idlewild is a great movie; stop hatin on artistic creativity. What, you need explosions and titties to make the movie good?

As for Mr. Patton, this is the first step towards gettin Outkast back atop the billboard charts.

      Outkast = G.O.A.T.

  • Trevin Smith

You guys put Andre 300 instead of 3000 lol but I hope this move is successful so the album can drop!

  • $ykotic

Hmmm. L.A.’s JUST looking out now? Sounds like he needed to be reminded.

    @ Max G

It’s Andre 3000. Leave Worldstar alone bro. You got non-spellcheckalitis from them.

  • Shawty J

If Big Boi’s jumping to Def Jam, what’s this mean for the OutKast album he said was supposed to be coming out later this year?

  • FLOSS

Guess its a good move but damn word to the Clispe they niggas at Jive be fucking up,

I see you Syk, and P,
you dudes seen the vid from Joe Budden talking about the S.O.B’s incident

    • GregSIDE

Either way I don’t think this shits a good move. Yeah Fucc Jive they push ur album way the fucc back, but why jump to a sinking ship?
Kast got enough money and a big enough following to go independent. Yeah u don’t get a big up front check, but you gonna get a huge return. Anywhere major they go unless it’s a true Outkast record they gonna push it back. The major labels are just scared to put out a solo from either Boi or 3 stacks. Solo = independent. Outkast = Major. Point Blank. It’s fucced up.

  • *BLOCK*

IN THE END THEY BOTH NEED EACH OTHER
I HOPE THE KAST ALBUM IS GONNA FOLLOW AND A DRE ALBUM WOULD BE NICE….I GOTTA SEE WHAT IN THE HELL HAS GONE WRONG WIT CEE-LO THOUGH LOL

MY PEOPLE BEAR WITNESS TO THE FALL OF DEF JAM. IT’S HAPPENING BEFORE OUR EYES.

Def Jam signing = automatic 5 year delay on album… Sir Lucious Leftfoot? 2014. Outkast? 2019.

The good ol boys at Def Jam love to play the game of no talking, rap style.

LA Reid: Aight, fellaz. You know the drill. First one of you to release your album loses.
Method Man: (raises hand) Loses what?
LA: Drop Tical 3 before 2012 and you’ll find out like LL did…

F*ck L.A. Reid he only signs South Artists.

    • ATF

so what? he signs them, they get big. they may not always be good but we’re talkin about big boi rite here. the other half of outkast, the greatest rap group from the south

  • BeerGangsta

Big Boi going to Def Jam that’s a better move than his last move. Big Boi should do this Independent. He been in the game long enough to know the business. Make the money for yourself than for somebody else.

  • Avenger XL

Signing to Def Jam at this point in time is a sure fire way to a EPIC FAIL. It is disappointing that artists with a strong brand cannot manage to put out successful independent releases not to mention if he would stop signing his brother, cousin, and his ATL weed carriers Purple Ribbon would have done OK. Especially Sans Bubba “my gimmick is lame” Sparxx
