Pharrell Says The Neptunes Are Plotting Rap Comeback, “We’ve Got A Lot Of New Treats” [With Exclusive Video]

Pharrell hinted at turning his attention back towards The Neptunes, renewing his focus on hip-hop production, last night (May 12) while backstage at BET’s 106 and Park.

“We got a lot of new treats,” Pharrell told XXLMag.com, with Shay and Chad Hugo nodding in agreement. “I know I’ve been out doing the rock n’ roll thing, but know that the empire strikes back.” First up will be Clipse’s third studio album, ‘Til The Casket Drops, which Pharrell admits to providing a “sizeable amount” of the beats, including the collabo with a certain Harlem rapper. “The feature with Cam’ron is pretty serious,” said Shay, breaking his silence, with Pharrell concurring, “Cam blacks on that.” [Watch Below]

However, the Virginia super producer was decidedly against a hip-hop direction for a next N.E.R.D. album. “If you were to ever go on the road with us, and see 80,000 people jumping at festivals, you’d know that there’s room for a hip-hop element — but those kids wanna jump,” said Pharrell. “And we’re absolutely hooked on it.”

“It’s got more steroids in it,” he said of the trio’s more rock-oriented sound, adding, “but hip-hop is definitely one of the shots.” - Devin Chanda

      Man everybody be hating on that Common album I thought it was good…not better than Finding Foever but still good.

      Glad they going back to pure production though, can’t wait to here what they have in store. i’m sure they got some new sounds up their sleeves.

    I agree with Pierzy. from the simplest like Clipse’s Grindin and Snoop Dogg’s drop it like its hot to really musical ines like beutiful, and give it to me they have provided classics:D Also really liked the seeing sounds! I would love to have a listen to hear what’s new.

    I hope Neptunes go by to the old style. That new shit didn’t work to good. Pharell stick to Producing! Leave that R&B bullshit along. Virginia Rappers and Producer are weird to me. Timbland and Neptunes can make you some good beats. They can’t make good beats for there self. Once ya’ll learn how 2 do that. Ya’ll sells will go up. Make a song with Cam. It won’t get no play nowhere at all. Don’t kill yourself.

    Hell yea, man Neptunes are two of the best that ever did it. I used to hate on them waaaay back in the day. But over the years you just come to realize just how many classic R&b and hip hop records they have done, and how they did it thier way. As in came in the game with a completly new sound, completly new drum sounds and changed the way misic sounded.

    People always act like they cant play, or thier beats are simple. If you doubt them, go check out some of the videos of them working with Justin Timberlake on his first album. Chad can play the piano like Stevie wonder..(well not that good), and pharell is a beast with the writting and beats,. Mad respect for the “tunes”

    i fucks with N.E.R.D and the neptunes. that neptunes album was basically a melting pot of different things. that almost all worked together on one album that o.d.b song was crazy. also introduced me to got tham or is it hot tham on that album. that is my fucking song until this day when that joint come on i spaz out.
