XXcLusive: Rick Ross Fesses Up In May XXL Cover Story, “Yes, It Was Me In Those Pictures”

With his third solo album, Deeper Than Rap, slated for an April 21st release, Rick Ross is gracing the cover of XXL magazine’s upcoming May issue.

In the cover story written by news editor Clover Hope, Ross addresses initially denying being a correctional officer, his street credibility and his feud with 50 Cent, among other things. This marks the second time the Boss graces the cover of XXL. He first posed alongside DJ Khaled, Trina and Flo Rida for XXL‘s July 2008 issue and now gets to shine solo on the May 2009 issue. On Denying Being A Correctional Officer

“Me not answering or addressing that situation has nothing to do with my career. I’ve accomplished enough, and I’ve made enough money for me to be good… Yes, it was me in those pictures. But I’ma tell you this. Me taking that job, I was doing my job. You understand what I mean?”

On His Street Credibility

“The stuff I talk about is real. The dope is real. The gun talk is official. Look up Kenneth ‘Boobie’ Williams. Look where he’s from. That’s not nothing to be proud of. I wish that on no man. But, just to let you know, that’s what I witnessed. It’s a reality. I cannot discuss certain people that’s still in the streets, and I will not. I took a street oath, and I’ma live by that, and I’ma die by that. And it’s not about a music career, ’cause that shit, I’m good. It’s about me and being in the streets.”

On His Feud With 50 Cent

“50 Cent made a statement [that he'll] ruin somebody life. Where I come from, it takes a AK-47 to do that. Cartoons, we laugh—funny. You put on a wig, come out the closet—funny. At the end of the day, we in the streets finna drop another No.1 album, we pressing on.”

          I just think it’s amazing how everyone is so fascinted with the “street cred”, or keeping it “real” stuff. I know it’s what’s up when u in the streets like that, but so many people glorify the street cred, u gotta have your street cred and all this. That just leads to so many of our young dudes killing, or being killed, or robbing etc. It’s crazy how thats glorified so much more than going to school to get an education and becoming somebody. His CURTIS Album sold more than all of your albums together. you have never even had a number 1 song in your life. none of your new songs have even charted yet from your new album deeper then rap while both 50 cent’s get up and i get it in were on the top 35 on billboards. so why do people still say rick ross makes better music. well why isn’t his music going on the billboards then. cause no one wants to play his music on the radio or buy it on itunes.

      for one…”Curtis” did not outsell of of rick ross’ albums combined. ross’ debut went plat and curtis sold a lil under 2 mil which was not a whole lot more than ross. “get up” and “i get it in” my have charted but by 50′s standards they flopped cause not too many people are talking about that shit and IMO both songs are decent at best and both of ross’ songs are better, IMO. if those 2 songs were hittin like you say ,then he wouldnt be pushing the album back. he did the same shit with curtis cause his first few singles didnt have the effect he wanted.

    True that but that was nothing to be shamed of, he coulda kept it 100 but he decided to lie bout some bs. His music never applead to me, but calling out 50 bad move only 1 rapper (Game) survived beef with the man. Bad strategy even the young boys aint rockin him.
