Like fellow West Coast OG Ice-T, rapper-tuned-actor Ice Cube will soon join the ranks of rappers-turned-actors who portray police officers on the big screen.
Variety reports that Cube, known for penning the N.W.A. classic “Fuck tha Police,” will star as a “rogue cop with a soft spot for his sister,” in the upcoming action comedy Ride Along. After finding out that she is going to marry a rich, white psychiatrist, Cube’s character asks the man to come work with him for a day, in an effort to ruin their engagement.
The hip-hop veteran will not only star, but will also rewrite and produce the movie with his Cube Vision partner Matt Alvarez. As of press time film studio New Line Cinema has yet to select a director and co-stars.
In related news, Cube’s latest film Janky Promoters - which is Atlanta rap giant Young Jeezy’s film debut – is currently searching for a distributor. The movie was originally going to be distributed by the Weinstein Company but that deal fell through.
