After having one of the biggest years in music in ’08 with his multi-platinum Tha Carter III album, Lil Wayne is already prepping his follow up.
Titled Rebirth, the new album’s sound may surprise some of Weezy’s fans. MTV News confirmed that the upcoming disc, set for an April 7th release date, will be a rock album.
Earlier this month Wayne’s latest signee, Canadian act Drake, hinted at the New Orleans rapper’s new direction in an interview with Much Music News. “It’s something different in just that whole 808s and Heartbreaks, just throwing individuals off,” he said.
Fans can judge it for themselves, as the guitar-heavy first single, “Prom Queen” leaked last night (Jan.25). [Listen Here].
As XXLmag.com previously reported, Wayne will be appearing on Katie Couric’s upcoming Grammy special on Feb. 4th at 9 p.m. EST. The self-proclaimed “greatest rapper alive” leads this year’s Grammy nods with 8 nominations, including Album of The Year, Song of the Year, Best Rap Album and Best Rap Song. Weezy will be performing at the 51st annual Grammy Awards, scheduled to air on February 8th. – Elan Mancini
