In a recent interview with Billboard, the producers behind Lil Wayne’s first single, “Prom Queen,” revealed some details on the surprise, upcoming rock album
The Miami-based production team, who consists of Infamous and Drew Correa, shared some insight on the direction of Weezy’s new project, Rebirth. “There were rumors Wayne was working on a rock album, but I assumed it was just 808 drums with guitars on it,” Infamous told Billboard. “But, that night when we worked on the track, he [Wayne] said he wanted lots of drums, bass and guitars. Drew started to add organs, and he [Wayne] said no. That’s when I realized it was actually going to be a real rock album.”
The beat making duo – who also produced “Mr. Carter,” the Weezy/Jay-Z collabo off Tha Carter III – have three tracks placed on Rebirth. And it’s no surprise that they fully support Weezy in his journey into uncharted territory. “You gotta give him credit – he’s done everything he can with hip-hop and has proven himself,” Infamous said. “Now he’s about to prove himself as a rocker and we’re excited to be a part of it.”
As XXLmag.com previously reported, Rebirth is slated for an April 7th release. – Elan Mancini
