Mississippi rapper and producer David Banner is headed to the Middle East. The former Crooked Lettaz MC has signed up with the United Service Organization (USO) and plans to perform for U.S. troops overseas.

MSNBC reprors that DB is expected to fly to the Persian Gulf to take part in a week-long USO/Armed Forces Entertainment tour. USO officials stated that he will also be making appearances at several military posts while abroad.

Banner takes great pride in showing his appreciation for American soldiers. “There’s nothing I enjoy more than giving back and expressing my thanks to those serving our nation,” Banner said.

“I am honored to travel with the USO and feel privileged to do what I do every day,” he continued. “Regardless of your political affiliation or viewpoint on the war, our soldiers work hard and have paved the way to where we are today,”

Apart from rapping, “Mr. Mississippi” is also a well-known philanthropist and was presented with a Visionary Award by the National Black Caucus in 2006 in acknowledgment for his service after Hurricane Katrina.

On a music tip, Banner released his fifth studio album The Greatest Story Ever Told, in July 2008, which generated the club-bangers’ “Get Like Me” with Young Joc and Chris Borwn and “Speaker” with Lil Wayne. – Azza Gallab
