Lil Wayne Redeems Himself At Jersey Powerhouse, Jay-Z Brings Out Beyonce

Looks like the Phillies and Rays will come together to finish the rain-delayed World Series before the Carters ever join together onstage.

Last night at the Izod Center in New Jersey, the two rap champs were scheduled to perform “Mr. Carter” for the first time.

When Lil Wayne jumped on stage, and queued the track as his second number of the night, the crowd went crazy.

As Jay-Z’s verse began, Weezy threw up the Roc Diamond, the live band morphed the beat into “Takeover,” and Hov’s voice boomed from the arena speakers.

Too bad the vocals weren’t actually coming from him.

Jay didn’t join Wayne onstage. His verse was played from the album track. And Weezy made no note of it.

But despite the missed historical opportunity, “Power105.1′s Powerhouse” still went down without a hitch.

The two Carters each put on polished productions. Wayne, the more maniacal, with his prancing around and talking to the audience. While Jay was a steady stream of hits, quips, and rehearsed showmanship.

“You right there, you can’t be tired,” Jay told a concertgoer in the crowd. “You shoulda had a fucking Red Bull. And you swaying the wrong way. Everyone stop. You start. Everyone go now.”

The Roc-A-Fella icon blazed through a number of hits with Memphis Bleek in tow. Hov delivered on “Roc Boys,” “Show Me What You Got,” and deep-rooted classics like “Can I Live.”

Jay really got the crowd going, however, when he brought out his wife, Beyonce, who performed “Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It).” The former Destiny’s Child front woman stormed the stage right into her hit. And she almost blinded the capacity crowd with her humongous diamond wedding ring.

Weezy also had the crowd on its feet throughout his set. The Cash Money star more than made up for his no-show at Boston’s “Jam’n 94.5 Monster Jam 2008″ the night before.

He broke out his guitar early and strummed along to his track “Comfortable,” before Bobby Valentino joined him for “Miss Officer.” Birdman also swooped in to spit his verse on “Pop Bottles.”

Ne-Yo brought a calmer hand to the bill earlier in the proceedings.

The night before in Bean Town, the Gentleman took to the stage for 45 minutes. He, of course, looked quite classy in his silver suit and top-hat. Ne-Yo performed “Miss Independent” and “Closer,” then topped off his performance by bringing out Jadakiss for their new collabo “By My Side.” Kiss came out to the fans adoration but it was short-lived as he was gone after just one song.

Yung Berg, Brandy, and Ray J also has opening slots during the Boston edition.

For the Carters, even if they didn’t come together on stage, they joined forced to give fans their money’s worth. Maybe one of these days we’ll get that dream match-up we’ve all been waiting for. In the meantime, lets’ just take what we can get, it’s not bad at all.
