Cypress Hill Sued Over 1993 Album Black Sunday

Recent VH1 Hip-Hop Honorees Cypress Hill are being sued by Syl Johnson for $29 million dollars for allegedly lifting his music, according to TMZ.

The California group’s 1993 album Black Sunday included the track “Lock Down,” an interlude on the LP. In Johnson’s suit, he claims Cypress used his “Is It Because I’m Black” for the production. Several record labels and publishing companies were also included in the suit.

Gym Class Heroes, Juelz Santana, Jim Jones, and Fat Joe honored CP at the 5th annual VH1 Hip-Hop Honors ceremony earlier this month. —Nino “Dubs” DeLuca

Syl Johnson must be out on the street or something, maybe trying to afford the health care costs… and someone floated the idea of suing…

Real smart, not even considering the statute of limitations, etc.

Sly Syl, Pathetic or Pitiful you decide? 15 years after this album’s release he steps up with BS lawsuit. This would be funny if it weren’t so damn sad.
