NEWS: Nas And DJ Green Lantern To Release The Nigger Tape

It looks like Nigger will get to see the light of day after all. Barely a week after scrapping the controversial title to his 9th solo album, word is Nas is scheduled to team up with DJ Green Lantern to drop The Nigger Tape.“I guess it shows you the power of Wal-Mart and Target,” Green told Rhapsody’s Play blog regarding Nas’ title switch. “If that was the case, it’s definitely scary because it kind of fucks with your artistic vision. But Nas and DJ Green Lantern are coming out with a mixtape called The Nigger Tape. Can’t nobody hold that back.”The tape will feature exclusive tracks, remixes and outtakes, including an unreleased verse from Nas’s recently released “Be A Nigger Too,” Black President,” a cut initially slated to appear on Green’s Barak Obama mixtape and “Legendary,” the theme song to a forthcoming Mike Tyson documentary. A new version of “The Last Real Nigga Alive,” which originally appeared on God’s Son, is also expected to make the final cut.As previously reported, Nas recently changed his album title. At press time, the CD was still untitled. The Queens lyricist initially announced that he’d be titling his next offering, Nigga during a New York performance at Nokia Theater last year. Having sparked discussions, the MC promptly changed the LP’s spelling to Nigger. Backed by Def Jam Records Chairman L.A. Reid and then-President Jay-Z, Nas stuck to his guns until retail stores concerns, among other things, grew overwhelming.–Carl Chery

    I can actually see why wal-mart or other stores where ya can’t even buy a BEER would halt the release or sales of Nas’ cd in their stores…there’s places where shit like that shouldn’t be seen by kids…i completely agree with freedom of speech but if it’s gonna hit ya in the pocket book that usually opens a niggas eyes to the reality of how this world operates…but i like how he’s taking another avenue to express his crazy thought process…haha…but i should say Nas is trying to stay relevant by taking extreme measures that’s really not all that appealing to his own ppl(supporters) including me

      As for Nas’s NIGGER, I think it’s funny how his LP would get banned based on the title.

      –Apparently so. Lest we forget 1999′s NIGGER PLEASE by Ol’ Dirty? Stores just like Wal-Mart had the album as Ni***r Please. Or some such.

      And no one’s heard of Dick Gregory?? I can walk into my local Waldenbooks right now and buy/order his book, entitled NIGGER. And this is North Carolina, folks!

      -So what’s with all the controversy about Nas, I wonder? The word “nigger” has sold things before. I’m guessing that having a faux-controversy on this man’s album can push units. Not that HE’s doing it. Maybe THEY are.

    Actually I believe Nas still has it the flow ,the concept and the focus. The only part for me to understand is that the “KKK” can rally and have marches,spit there hatred and anger towards people, make outrageous threats and show up on the door steps of “THE WHITEHOUSE” and they have dinner prepared for them!!!!     Also, the TV shows and movies presented on TV bleep out ‘curse’ words, but the ‘N’ word is never bleeped. Why is that? We can hear it being used in a racist way by white people on the TV every day, but we cannot hear or see it from a black man on the radio or music store. That’s just crazy. I understand the importance of parental guidance, I really do, but it should be across the board in both TV and radio, being they are the easisest ways for children and adolescents to obtain information… unfortunately. If a show has a mature of pg14 rating, then the ‘N’ word should be treated like it is when a song is played on the radio. No ifs, ands, or buts. Of course, the argument would be that it would impede artistic expression and ruin the flow of the tale, but isn’t it the same for a music track….?
    Anyway, Nas is the best out there, because what he has to say actually has basis behind it. He speaks the truth. He wants to educate, nothing wrong in that. Everyone does it everyday, as soon as they learn something, they want to pass it on to the next person. They should have let him have the title. It’s not like anyone’s eyes would have started bleeding from seeing the title. Afterall, if it was that serious, they could have just taped the sale stickers over the last 5 letters of the word, and it would have still sold. I mean, do I need to start running these businesses. It’s not like a prescription where you can’t cover up the name of the drug, etc.
    They are the ones that made it such a controversy, not NAS.
    Yes, it is good that he has another outlet, but it should not have had to get to that. The people could have chosen to not buy the CD if it was too controversial to them. That’s all.

    Fuck Wal-Mart! They only sell edited copies any way. They don’t sell the parental advisory ones. You can only buy R & B albums from them. I don’t understand why Target trippin, I thought they would support it (Im buggin on that one). He should just re-name it “The N Word”. This is an album on personal and racial growth for individuals of all races to over-come the discrimination that have been portrayed over the years.
