Common Gets Electric With New LP, Invincible Summer

There must be something to this acting thing for Common. Ever since the Chicago rapper started devoting more time to Tinseltown, he also suddenly shifted to frenetic work pace with his music. Com is set to deliver yet another album this summer, titled Invincible Summer, according to Billboard. The album comes on the heals of his last project, Finding Forever, which spawned the Grammy-nominated collaboration “Southside” featuring Kanye West. Invincible Summer, however, won’t feature production from West, who had become a musical muse to Common. The two Windy City residents reunited on Com’s BE and Finding Forever. Common gave ‘Ye credit for inspiring him again, but on the new album he decided to go a different route. Mainly because West was busy on his Glow in the Dark tour, Common said he couldn’t get much studio time with the producer. So he instead hooked up with the Neptunes and one-time OutKast contributor Mr. DJ. The result is a more electro-tinged sound, reports Billboard. Cee-Lo, Chester French, and Santogold are expected to appear on Invincible Summer. The album is tentatively due in July.

    Man, Common is one of my favorite rappers, but this is real disappointing. BE and Finding Forever were two of my favorite albums ever, and now he’s going back to that Electric Circus shit??? And no Ye production? Come on Com!

    I must say Electric Circus wasn’t his best produced album as far as beats and sound, but lyrically there aren’t to many messing with it!

    Whatever he drops, he is still better than 90% of the rappers out.

    Yo! First of all Electric Circus was a Banger!
    That album transcended all barriers and was as inspiring and thought provoking as any album. Even if Com himself thinks it was lackluster. He came hard on it and it wasn’t as monotone as he can get sometimes. I’m hopin’ the new LP is a twist of something different. We’re all at our best when we’re walking the tight rope.

    Electric Circus was very underrated.

    Electric circus was no where close to where common needed to go as an emcee. That’s why he went so in on BE to prove he still had that fire and Finding forever was a banger but I don’t no If him with the neptunes will mix well because Remember the Clipse as dope as they are they still lacked having really street type beats.

    electic as in different producers people. come on. and ya’ll don’t remember a few months ago Ye talkin shit like he was the reason commons last two album did good. fuck Ye. Com can stand on his own two. he’s used different producers before and had bangers, kanye just put him in a mainstream light.

      Common needs to take it back to the D and work with cats like Black Milk and Mr. Porter. they have been consistently producing that FIRE over the last couple of years. this could be the project they get mass recognition.

    Sorry to say it but this album will be a brick. The lyrics can be tight as hell but if the beats aren’t there then it just won’t work. He’s trying to prove he doesn’t need Kanye but he does need a good overall sound to his album otherwise it’ll just be a Barack Obama spoken word album.
