Jay-Z to Headline U.K.’s O2 Wireless Festival
Jay-Z has been announced as a headliner for this year’s O2 Wireless Festival at London’s Hyde Park this July. According to the BBC, festival organizers recently confirmed Hov’s appearance, calling him a “thrilling live performer” and a “true living legend.” Jay will play the first night of the festival which will take place over four days from July 3-6. Also performing that night will be Grammy Award winngin producer Mark Ronson, Hot Chip and Roisin Murphy. Tickets go on sale on Friday April 11, although some pre-sale tickets will be available as of this Wednesday (April 9). In related news, several U.K. news outlets are reporting an unconfirmed rumor that Jay is planning to pull out of his headlining gig at this year’s Glastonbury Festival. Since festival organizer Michael Eavis announced Jay as this year’s headliner, several many people have wondered why a rapper would be booked for a traditionally Rock centric festival. Tickets for Glastonbury officially went on sale yesterday (April 6) and, while they typically sell out in a matter of hours, some 37,000 tickets are still available. There has also been talk that Jay isn’t happy with the notion that Eavis is using him to draw in a younger crowd. “He hasn’t liked all this talk of how Glastonbury is more urban and hip this year because of his appearance,” an unidentified source told London tabloid The Sun. “He feels it’s a bit sad and he’s being used to make a point.” Eavis has denied that Glastonbury is on the verge of losing their headliner, saying he spoke with Jay’s manager recently and everything is all set.
