New York radio personality Ed Lover is being sued by a woman who claims she was punched in the face by the Power 105.1 DJ at a Manhattan club in 2005. According to the New York Post, the suit—which was filed in Manhattan Supreme Court last week—asserts that Letitia Belford was humiliated when Lover characterized her as “being drunk and sloppy and asking for his autograph." The morning show host was arrested and charged with assault and harassment shortly after the December 2005 incident at the Duvet nightclub. According to his version of the incident, he struck Belford in self-defense after she threatened to hit him with a bottle. The New Jersey woman received 20 stitches for a gash on her face. Ed later accepted a plea deal from prosecutors which reduced the charge to disorderly conduct. Belford was irate when Lover was sentenced to seven days of community service. It is unclear what damages, if any, Belford is seeking through the action. The suit also targets the owners of Duvet, whom she blames for not providing adequate security.
