On Wednesday (February 13), Island Def Jam chairman LA Reid officially announced a new partnership between the label and DJ Khaled for the Miami native's new imprint We The Best Music. Khaled exploded on the scene in 2006 with his debut LP, Listennn...the Album, which spawned the single “Holla at Me” with Lil Wayne, Rick Ross, Paul Wall Fat Joe and Pitbull. On his sophomore project, 2007’s We The Best, the New Orleans born DJ and producer continued to unite some of the biggest names in Hip-Hop for epic album cuts, and solidified his reputation as one of the most respected DJ’s in the game. The debut album from rapper ACE will be the first release on We The Best Records with a street date to be announced in the coming weeks. “I'm proud to be a member of the Def Jam family,” DJ Khaled said in a statement announcing the deal. “Def Jam has been and still is one of the most important institutions in hip hop AND music as a whole. I am extremely honored and excited to be a partner with them in We The Best Music. I look forward to creating great music and continuing the success. LA, Shakir and Lenny S. are you ready? I am!” Despite the Def Jam deal, Khaled will remain a member of Fat Joe’s Terror Squad organization.
