Adam Yauch, better known as MCA of pioneering trio the Beastie Boys, has announced the launch of a new indie film distribution company Oscilloscope Laboratories. According to Billboard.com, the company will acquire features from film festivals and provide financial backing to complete and release unfinished works in the U.S. Oscilloscope will be headed by David Fenkel, VP of ThinkFilm, and Yauch’s partner on the Beastie Boys’ fan shot documentary Awesome! I Fucking Shot That! The company will operate out of an 8,000 square-foot Manhattan office space and plans to release between two and ten films during their first year. What makes the venture unique is that they will not be counting on any third party financial assistance, but rather plan to share the risk with their filmmakers. Oscilloscope will handle all of its own marketing and theatrical distribution. Their first release will be announced within a month and is expected to be in theaters by this summer.
