Report Claims Roc-A-Fella Records Roster Intact, Label Will Remain at Def Jam

Recent comments from longtime Roc-A-Fella artist Peedi Peedi have fueled rumors that the imprint founded by Jay-Z, Dame Dash and Kareem “Biggs” Burke was being dismantled. According to a report from Billboard.com, that is not the case. “Beans and Freeway didn’t get dropped,” Beanie Sigel’s manager, Mark Byers told Billboard. “I just got off the phone with L.A. Reid talking about the next video for “Rain” featuring Raheem DeVaughn that we’re about to release. We’re re-launching Beanie’s project and releasing a “Rain” remix with State Property.” In an audio interview that surfaced earlier this week, Peedi stated that he had been dropped from the label and expressed anger at being notified of the decision by an A&R rep rather than by Jay himself. The Philly MC also claimed that other Roc-A-Fella vets such as Beanie and Freeway had also recently been let go. Although Def Jam representatives did not comment for the story, an unnamed source tells Billboard that Peedi Peedi is most likely still signed to the Roc. Nonetheless, the once mighty label is hardly the industry powerhouse it once was. “I don’t think there’s going to be a Roc-A-Fella anymore,” an unidentified insider explained to Billboard. “I do think each artist will have to go to the new people in charge and have a meeting separately. But the Roc artists aren’t going to roll over and die.”

    It makes sense…if Jay isn’t the CEO of Def Jam, and neither Dame or Biggs are there, why would there be Roc-A-Fella? Def Jam can keep who they want and just dump the artists they don’t want? This is a smart business decision in my opinion

    I think alot of people are forgetting Jay may not be the president of def jam anymore but yes he still does own roc-a-fella records. If you recall the main reason dame wwas hurt was because he felt they all built roc-a-fella together, but when def jam bought the roc, def jam made the decision to get rid of dame and biggs but then after that they sold the label back to jay after they made him president of def jam and dame felt that jay was cheating them by not partnering with them again. Check it out. go back to the articles from when the roc first broke up and see for yourself. Personally Im a ROC fan and I feel there would never have been a roc without jay, he was the sole moneymaker for like the first 5 or 6 years.

    peedi’s mad cause nobody would ever buy a album from a dude named peedi peedi. lol! that was the worst name for a rapper EVER! dude always sucked balls though, he said the same shit all the time. they tried many times to push him, remember ne-yo’s 1st video? he was in that shit and still couldn’t get a buzz. that niggarican track with n.o.r.e, a few years back was hot, and still no buzz for peedi. just go away and stop hatin on everybody who didn’t get dropped. anyway, i heard beans and freeway on g unit radio a few weeks ago, and they are pissed off at the current situation over there. beans said they just through his album out as a tax write off, knowing he was gonna get burried in the fourth quarter by bigger artists. seriously whoever owns the name rockafella needs to just give it up. nobody cares anymore. beans and freeway need to go independent, which they both said they wanted to do during the interview, and kanye can stay at def jam. all those other tax write off’s nobody cares about.

    Still don’t know why they dropped the ball on Sigel. That last album wa hard.. If the labels had supported that Scarface, Beanie, Ghost, styles P -movement it’d had its impact. Yet they need to get some low-budget street-vids..
