Good cover. I see the allusion to the late great Richard Pryor’s That Nigger’s Crazy album cover.

    • MXL

They’re alluding to “The Richard Pryor Anthology Album,” not “That Nigger’s Crazy,” but the cover’s still dope.

      • EReal

    Elliot Wilson FIRED!

    Daily Hip-Hop News:
    Breaking News: XXL Editor-in-Chief Fired
    written by Brandi Hopper
    Monday – January 7, 2008

Long time XXL editor-in-chief Elliott Wilson was suddenly fired from his post at the rap magazine today (Jan. 7).
Undisclosed sources from inside the XXL offices have confirmed that Wilson was terminated, though as of press time no reason has been offered. SOHH has learned that Wilson’s contract with XXL parent company, Harris Publications, was up this month. Souces say deputy Editor, Vanessa Satten, has been appointed interim EIC.
Wilson began his career as a freelance journalist, writing for independent rap publications. Along with Sacha Jenkins, Brent Rollins, Gabriel Alvarez and Chairman Mao , Wilson started Ego Trip magazine in 1994. He joined The Source in 1996.
A power rift between then Source publisher David Mays and the editorial staff prompted several disgruntled employees to leave and start their own magazine, XXL. After his own conflict with Mays, Wilson too joined the new publication’s ranks.
Wilson made an infamous industry name for himself by penning scathing editorials which often took direct and personal shots at his former empolyee, competitors, internet sites, and artists.
As SOHH previously reported back in Dec. 2006 Wilson was appointed to oversee DJ/producer magazine Scratch under the new name XXL Presents Scratch. In September of ’07 the mag folded.

    • that nigga

If you idiots knew the whole story after Nore hit NaS with the flower pot they had to pull NaS up off of Nore from poundin wack ass Nore out. Sorry dude, get the facts straight.

    • Grapes

LOL Who are you gonna go to now, YN’s failure of a magazine, Scratch? Oh wait, never mind. IT’S GONE LIKE THAT GARBAGE EDITOR. I liked the samples though, those weren’t half bad. Still, his pieces were not to my taste.

…excellent choice for the 100th issue!

  • claudia

  • chris

“Esco Season” has returned. Finally a real MC gets the cover!!!!

  • chris

    41st side…..Queensbridge up in here!!!

  • Grapes

If you want Nasir’s album to get it’s true point through to the masses, you need to stop censoring Nigger and let Nas make a fool of himself as people see him fade away in the hype. If he pulls another Illmatic, thank God I’m wrong. But for now…pray.

  • INF

bout time its someone else besides that garbage rapper lil wang.

  • Grapes

If they wanted an amazing issue, shouldn’t they be including people that are instrumental to the success of the lifestyle which the magazine revolves around? Meaning people who are CLASSIC & TIMELESS like KRS-One, Kool G. Rap, LL Cool J, Rakim just to name a couple. I know that they weren’t instrumental in the magazine’s success, but they were the ORIGINALS of hip-hop. They should include interviews with these pioneers of this amazing music that they worked so hard to create and finesse this legendary legacy (just for hand claps and calls of “A Bay Bay” to ruin all of their hard work).

  • LBDII

Fuck it you fired YN im done with this magazine goddamnit.

  • Rockcity

Damn bout time!!! that cover is classic So Grapes, you dont think Nas is classic? So you have never listened to Stillmatic or The Lost Tapes or It was written?????

    • Grapes

Illmatic and It Was Written AT THE MOST. The Lost Tapes were…XL.

  • SOUTHERNBREED

good choice for the 100th cover.
nas is my nigga and i got all his albums.
dude talks about real shit and he still be killing it.
they overlook him and i think he is underrated
and everybody looks at jay all the time.
xxl,if you need an idea of who should be on the next cover,i think it should be Scarface.

  • http://myspace.com/dreamcrushermusic dreamcrusher

nas is one of the illest alive. but not better than common.

  • theone

NASTY NAS!!!!!….hope the interview is dope…yep…and it’s good as hell to see a REAL MC finally on the cover….thought these MFs was about to Gangster me out….Nasty Nas…couldn’t have chosen a better cover….that’s word…

  • BashBizzle

Damn Elliott, I heard you got fired from XXL!!!
LOL! I feel for you, but I thought you run that shit man.

Benzino is laughing somewhere about now.

  • blackheartT2

yo it about time they put my boy Nas on the
    cover again.
Lets go Esco. It about to be a classic album along with a classic rating on this classic
    magazine cover

  • phatsam

when the last time nas had a hot album you niggas are band rideing dick riders. you are some of the same dudes that was like j is right he only has two hot albums.

    • BIG O

shut the fuck up.hip hop is dead was a beast of a cd.gods son and stillmatic were ill to.he is 3 out of 4 over the last couple of years.and ill bet that this one will be dope also.remember niggas is still talking about whether hip hop is dead or not.nigger will have people talking for years to.its only about 3-5 artist in the world who can make niggas talk with just a album title.not just hip hop but all genres

    • SOUTHERNBREED

      phatsam.
i didn’t agree with jay on shit!
i was a nas fan even when him and pac had their beef and i still was listening to nas.
pac is my favorite but i still listened to biggie, nas, jay and junior mafia.
      i ain’t simple minded,i don’t follow
      everybody.

  • http://www.blackwhitekiss.com heidi

kidding me? Nas isn’t really famous. Hands down he is probably one of the best if not the best rapper in the game but only people who like good rap/hip-hop music. but any way nas isn’t relatively known as well and remember he never makes songs that are going to get radio play or dance songs so he isn’t going to get much attention. I viewed his nude photos at blackwhitekiss.com – a sole community for black and white people

    • sean_izzle

dumbass Hip hop hater! Nas has had two 2xPlatinum selling albums( I Am, It was written, check RIAA.com and Wikipedia) and thats more than youre favorites like T.I.,Young Jeezy and Dem Franchize Boyz. youre favorites are not famous going Platinum is not much multiplatinum i much

  • JAY STONE

Don’t get me wrong, I’m never happy when a man loses his job, but I was a faithful reader of XXL since the first issue. It was the best hip hop mag I ever read. However, as soon as they got to the top, shit went downhill. It got to the point where XXL was just as biased and flawed as the mag they mocked every issue – The Source.

Credible, interesting journalism was abandoned in favor of catering to who they thought was their audience and wack rappers began getting all of the attention, while artists with talent could only wish they could get an interview. I cancelled my subscription a year ago cuz I couldn’t take it anymore. Plus, I could get better journalism and up-to-the-minute hip hop news for free online.

Hopefully, this change will see XXL get back to a credible publication. We’ll see. But, it may be too late now.
