Spice 1’s Family Reacts to Shooting

Bay Area veteran Spice 1 is currently recovering in an area hospital after being shot early Monday morning (December 3) while sitting in his car. According to the San Francisco Chronicle, the rapper suffered a collapsed lung as a result of a bullet wound to his chest. “He’s in pain, but otherwise he’s coming along really well,” his mother, Jean Green-Craven told the Chronicle. “He’s a very lucky young man.” Contrary to earlier reports that said the rapper had dozed off in his Cadillac Escalade when he was shot, the rapper told his family that he was in fact talking to his girlfriend on the phone and listening to music. Spice then said that somebody walked up to the vehicle and tried to jimmy the door open. When he demanded to know who it was, the person shot him. It’s possible that the assailant did not know the rapper was in the car because of the darkly tinted windows. Spice’s mother and his stepfather, Jerry Craven, do not believe the shooting was rap-related or because of any street beef. “Everybody loves him,” Jerry Craven remarked. “My son would always tell me if he had got into a confrontation or an argument at party, and that has never happened.”
