During a news conference at a hotel in Beverly Hills on Monday (November 19), rapper and actor Romeo signed a national letter of intent to attend the University of Southern California on a basketball scholarship. According to the Associated Press, Romeo, who is currently a guard on the Beverly Hills High basketball team, is ranked among the top 15 prep point guards in the nation. The teenage son of No Limit founder Master P will join fellow high school hoops stars DeMar DeRozan and Donte Smith on the USC team. Last season he averaged 13.9 points and 5.6 assists per game. "This is the most important thing I've had to do and hopefully it sends a message to kids across the country that education is more important than money," Romeo explained during the news conference. "Getting a college scholarship is more important than winning an American Music Award, and I plan to be the best student-athlete I can be at USC." Master P’s own ambitions to play professional basketball are well documented, and the mogul tried out for two NBA teams during the 1990’s, but failed to make the cut.
