Prodigy Heads to Trial on Weapons Charge
Prodigy of Mobb Deep appeared in a Manhattan courtroom yesterday (October 4) for the first day of his trial on weapons possession charges. According to the New York Post, two undercover New York City cops testified that they pulled over P’s armored Chevy Suburban on West 31st Street last October after they saw him make a u-turn and drive the wrong way up Ninth Avenue. Both officers say that they saw the rapper’s hand near the open center console between the driver and passenger seats. Prodigy claims he had no idea that the fully loaded illegal handgun was in the vehicle at the time. His passenger and longtime collaborator, producer The Alchemist, was also arrested at the time, but the charges were later dismissed. The trial is scheduled to continue with the defense’s case on Tuesday (October 9).
