Former Employee Sues Jay-Z’s 40/40 Club, Says She Lost Job over Pregnancy

A former employee has filed a lawsuit against Jay-Z and his upscale Manhattan sports bar, the 40/40 Club, claiming that she was fired when she informed her boss that she was pregnant. According to the lawsuit, which was obtained by, former 40/40 sales associate Folake Ogundiran, claims she was verbally reprimanded when she informed a female supervisor of her pregnancy. Ogundiran says the supervisor told her that “she can’t run a business like this” and advised her not to report to work the next day. The former sales associate claims that she was then barred from entering the workplace and denied unemployment benefits. She also insists that repeated calls to management to clear up the situation were ignored. As detailed in the suit, Ogundiran believes that she was discriminated against because she was pregnant and therefore was “inconsistent with the image 40/40 wanted its sales people to exude, namely, young, fashionable, unattached, and sexy.” Ron Berkowitz, a rep for the club, told TMZ that the suit lacks merit and, “like many other lawsuits” brought against Jay-Z and 40/40,“will likely be dismissed.”
