Big Moe of Houston’s Screwed Up Click Passes Away Following Hospital Stay
Houston rapper Big Moe, 33, of the late DJ Screw’s Screwed Up Click, passed away while at the Ben Taub Hospital in H-Town on Sunday afternoon (October 14). According to the Associated Press, Big Moe, whose real name was Kenneth Moore, had been admitted to the hospital over a week ago for an unspecified ailment. Although a spokesman for the county hospital system did not disclose a cause of death, rumors have circulated over the past week that Moe suffered from a heart attack, possibly brought on by his affinity for “syrup.” The popular drink, also known as “drank” or “lean,” is a popular concoction that includes codeine or promethazine laced cough syrup. “He was a great influence to the music community here in Houston,” Swishahouse Records founder Michael “5000” Watts told the AP. “He was a good person and one of the founding fathers of the music movement here.” DJ Screw, founder of the Screwed Up Click and an early proponent of the “syrup” movement, died of a heart attack in 2002.
